Re: Weaning the binky
I would try and take it away for naps first and see how that goes and then work your way to taking it at night as well. My son had his until he was two and it was treterous to take it he loved it my daughter was 18 months and let it go very easily. Hope this helps.

Re: Weaning the binky
Explain to him that it's time to give it up
The more creative way: I've heard of doing this --- you can say that it's time to give it to the elf/fairy - whatever you decide - so that he can give it to the newborn babies. You can have him put it under his pillow & he can wake up with a toy or something.
The real way: Joseph came down with a severe case of cox sackie at 22 mos- handed me his pacifer and said "Fire - hurts". Fire = his word for pacifer. Joseph used to say "Fire! Fire!" in stores to demand his pacifier...it worked really well in enclosed areas...sigh
Then toss every single pacifier that you have so you dont' backpedal. For about 2 weeks he'll have a hard time going to sleep & you'll consider going back to it. Don't do it - or it will just take longer.
Now - anyone has suggestions on getting rid of thumbs for Maddie??

Barb that would work if Connor understood anything I was telling him!

Re: Weaning the binky
If it's a night time issue I would definately just take it now and get it over with!! It will be hard for a little while.

Re: Weaning the binky
I dont know if this is recommended or against the rules, but growing up my parents would put tobasco sauce on my thumb and the taste would stay and thats how I stopped sucking it. maybe you could do onions? LOL I know this sounds crazy but it worked. Of course my dad told me he used to put brandy on my gums when I was teething so......
