Weird Groupon experience - ended well but heads up
I wanted to share my Groupon experience as a heads up for anyone who uses it the way I do – as in once or twice a year.
I last used Groupon in December of last year for holiday cards (the photo affections Groupon.) I logged into my account this morning because I knew I had $15 left on a gift card - I was sure because I keep track – and I wanted to see if they had any deals for flower delivery.
I couldn't log on to my account and I was unable to reset my password. I did live chat customer service and long story short my account was deactivated because of inactivity. I think that's a little harsh to do so after less than 13 months - my last purchase was 12/7/19 - but I really wouldn't have cared except that when the woman reactivated my account my Groupon bucks were gone. When I asked her about them she said oh yeah “they expire with inactivity”. I was p!ssed. So you don't use Groupon in over a year and you just lose whatever $$ you have with them? I don't even know if that's legal. She just kept saying sorry so I asked for a manager who did the right thing and deposited $50 Groupon bucks in my account. So ultimately I applaud them for doing the right thing but it was weird that I had to push for that to happen and that they even have a policy like that
I guess if you have any Groupon bucks keep an eye on them. I won't be giving anyone any Groupon gift cards and I'm going to tell the person who gave it to me no more.

Oh wow! That sucks! I didn't even think it could get deactivated. Especially after the year we had. I mean really... so many people aren't or can't go places. I had to cancel a Groupon with them right in March/April for a hatchet throwing night. I bought on Groupon and was supposed to go with about 10 friends, but obviously canceled that. That was the last time I dealt with them.
Good to know. I'll have to check on mine soon.

i know that reward-type accounts do have points (dollars) that expire from inactivity, but when it sucks that they pulled this on a gift card. yuck.
glad you were able to have a good outcome.
