weird question about sleeping positions
that has to do only with your hands.
When you sleep, do you keep your hands balled up over fingers flat?
Someone once told me you should sleep with your hands flat and now that I am paying attention to it, it is so hard and uncomfortable.

Re: weird question about sleeping positions
Both. Sometimes I ball my hands around the edge of my blanket. Sometimes I lay them flat under my head or pillow.
ETS: Now I won't be able to fall asleep tonight because I'll be thinking about it!!

I'm sorry, cause I know how true that is. It is driving me crazy. And I know there are a whole bunch of people who cant even answer this now cause its something you pay no attention to. I'll have to remember to bump tomorrow.

Re: weird question about sleeping positions
I voted other - I usually have one hand flat under my head or pillow and the other one is pushing against my shoulder so that my fingers are bent back.

Both are flat - one under the pillow and one next to my head.

Re: weird question about sleeping positions
Other because I curl up my fingers then wake up and put them back flat.
Yes, you should not curl up your fingers. You are contracting your muscles all the time to maintain that position.
One of the reason it's uncomfortable to keep them flat is that some muscles are now being stretched that were not before if you have been doing it for years.

Re: weird question about sleeping positions
I try really hard to keep them open and not under me in any way.
I have a friend who got a little too drunk and fell asleep with his hand balled under his body (he was sleeping on his stomach) and apparently he was too drunk to feel it when the blood supply was being cut off (his hand "falling asleep") and he lost the ability to move his thumb and index finger. Really sad, he was an amazing piano and guitar player.

Re: weird question about sleeping positions
always balled - it's so much more comfortable. why should we sleep with them flat?
ETA: i am usually holding onto the pillow or pillowcase, which would be hard to do if my hands were flat

I totally ball up TIGHT fists and either have major carpal tunnel when I wake up or wake up in the middle of the night with my fingers NUMB!

clenched in a tight fist.
i stopped wearing my rings to bed because i was unable to get them off when I woke up...the clenching really swells my fingers!
My Mom does the same exact thing, too.

Re: weird question about sleeping positions
I have no idea what I do, other than I usually wake up with hand prints on my face.
But, the sleep book that they have at the Four Seasons Hotels lists laying with your hands flat and palms on the bed is one approach to help you fall asleep.
