Weird question about toilet bowls and flushing
I’m having my bathroom redone and am in the process of ordering all the different pieces before construction starts. Based on the layout of my bathroom, I wanted a toilet with the handle on the right side instead of the left. (In case you didn’t notice, the handles are almost always on the left).
So, before I have the right handled toilet ordered, I wanted to make sure there was no real reason to keep it on the left, so started googling. What I learned was that handles are generally on the left because most people are right handed (I’m not) - making it easier to use your right hand to flush while sitting on the bowl! Is that what most people do??? Maybe TMI, but I’ve always flushed after I get up. Have I been doing it wrong all this time?

Re: Weird question about toilet bowls and flushing
Learn something new everyday! I always assumed it was on the left because most are right handed and we wipe with our right hand so you use the non wiping hand to flush.
I flush while standing. I don’t want toilet water aerosols covering my most private areas! They say the water and bacteria come up when you flush which is why you should close the lid before flushing. So I would imagine your privates get coated in that if you sit and flush. Not to say I’ve never done it (courtesy flush) but it’s a rare occurrence and I always skeeve it lmao

Re: Weird question about toilet bowls and flushing
One of my bathrooms has a dual-flush toilet that has the buttons in the center of the top tank. I wonder how that fits into the right/left side debate....

When you flush mid poop to avoid the smell from getting too bad.

When’s it’s bad poop, so you flush in between before you finish, to help with the smell.

I think the bottom on top is pretty small so you can still fit asswipes and air freshener on either side of the button.
And I love this thread!

Well, I have a bizarrely long bathroom and extra long vanity to go with it. So I have now, and will have in the new bathroom, drawers at both ends of the vanity - so I keep extra TP and wipes in the drawers closest to the toilet bowl. As for air freshener, that goes behind the bowl on the floor . But anyone I know who has the button flush keeps things on the sides of the button :

Eliminates it all together
Unfortunately, the one I want doesn’t come with the button flush option

Weird question about toilet bowls and flushing
I have nothing about the side of the flusher, but if you have the option of getting a 'tall' toilet, go for it. It is the best thing we did when we redid our house. I sit on other people's toilets now and it feels like i'm sitting on the ground. The high toilet is so much better!

Yup, I'm recovering from a surgery and its the one of the things that has kept me going. I'm going to visit some relatives this weekend, first thing I thought was how am I going to get on and off of that mini toilet, can I bring a crane with me?

So true!
When we redid our upstairs bathroom, I made sure to get the taller one. I also got one without the “ears canals” on the sides lmfaooo it’s straight up. So no going through to clean all the dirt, dust and dog hair. Easy clean
Our downstairs toilet is old , short and harder to clean with that “ear canal” base. I can’t wait to replace it !
