I have nothing about the side of the flusher, but if you have the option of getting a 'tall' toilet, go for it. It is the best thing we did when we redid our house. I sit on other people's toilets now and it feels like i'm sitting on the ground. The high toilet is so much better!
Yes, I agree!
Yes, I am getting a "tall" one!
I feel like now that I'm "older" I appreciate this even more. LOL With the low ones, my knees ache getting up.
So true!
When we redid our upstairs bathroom, I made sure to get the taller one. I also got one without the “ears canals” on the sides lmfaooo it’s straight up. So no going through to clean all the dirt, dust and dog hair. Easy clean
Our downstairs toilet is old , short and harder to clean with that “ear canal” base. I can’t wait to replace it !
LOL. I hate those "ear canals". I have to get down on my knees to clean it and it hurts to get up. I wish I thought of these things when I was doing my reno.

Also for noise as well hahahahaha
I'll add a third reason - our plumbing sukks so in the downstairs bathroom in particular we have less backup issues when we flush midway through a big #2.
And yes this is a great thread.

Weird question about toilet bowls and flushing
My buttons are on the wall behind. There is a big button for the big flush and a small button for a small flush. I haven’t been used to handles in a while, about 20 years.

Now I'm wondering, what are ear canals on a toilet?

The sides of the toilet base. Has those curves and twists you have to clean. I bought a new one that is a solid base (kinda like a pedestal sink ) no curves to clean around

Yeah, that’s what they have here except they cover the tank part behind a wall. The buttons are on the wall usually.
And then there is the awful German shelf toilet. The worst. You can google it. It’s basically so you can examine your shit. You poop on a shelf without water. Then it flushes strongly in the pool in the front. There is always a brush to clean it after you are done. That’s customary even with normal toilets. They are obsessed with poop. It’s really strange.
But that is an old feature and can only be found in buildings that are old or just after ww2. I had to use one for a few months. It sucked. My parents had it when they lived in Germany in the 60s and my brother was born here.

Weird question about toilet bowls and flushing
Don't get a handle flush toilet at all! When we did construction, I got two toilets that you just have to wave your hand over the top right and it automatically flushes. It runs on batteries, so once a year I have to change the batteries in the automatic flusher. It's awesome!!

Weird question about toilet bowls and flushing
why not get the toilets with the dual flush on the top? then you can avoid a left or right handed situation lol. We have the home depot brand one, it was like $99. Has two buttons on the top, one is for a lighter flush
ETA: they sell a tall one as well
