Well, the braces bill came ....UPDATE 11/10
$4850.00 
Not that it wasn't what we expected, but ouch none the less....
BM sends the financial agreement to us (which we told her to let us know when the consult was so that DH could make a follow up appointment to discuss the payment arrangements, but of course, like everything else, she did what SHE wanted and went ahead and made the arrangements....Even though she doesnt have to pay a dime of it!
Then get this .....
She says in her letter to DH, "let me know if you want to pay them direct or if you want me to charge it and you can send me the $200 a month 
Yeah ok, we just might let you earn some air miles or get cash back when we can do the same with our own charge card  No thank you, we will take care of it
DH is going to contact the orthodontist in case there is any payment options that weren't discussed and to make sure we got our dental insurance discount....
I wish she would just go away 
UPDATE 11/10
So today my DH finally calls the orthodontist office to see if this is the only payment arrangement that they offer....
Come to find out ....BM NEVER EVEN gave them the insurance information and now instead of it being $4850 its only going to be $3638  !!!!!
I guarantee you ( she's slick like this)- her plan was to hopefully have my DH pay her the payments and her have the plan adjusted with the insurance info after the fact without his knowledge thus profitting the almost $1300
So now DH isnt even going to let her know we are paying less...let her think he shelled out $4850 !
It never ends with this one...Just glad my DH followed up, because in years past, he blindly obliuged her without question !

Braces are put on in phases. The first phase (uppers) we paid half & then we paid the other half..ONE year later.
Definetly talk to the Dr yourself,there may be things you are not aware of,maybe your insurance covers a portion (ours did)

Yes, definately speak to the orthodondist directly. Especially make sure she is gettign reasonable braces, payment plans etc... I think you guys shouldve been more involved since you are paying for everything

Because back when the BM wrote up the agreement ( yes, my DH let her draw up the agreement which basically was a carbon copy of her agreement that was drawn up with her older daughters father in their divorce ) that is what she put ( father to be responsible for 100% of all medical, dental, etc...)
My DH hired a bone-head attorney to look over the agreement and he ok'ed it
(my DH wasn't married to the BM, so it was only a custody/support document)
DH didn't know any different and assumed that to be the "norm"...
He has since tried to get it changed, but since it has been so long ( almost 12 years), the magistrate has not changed it ( but she also has not raised his support, so DH doesn't push it)
Our biggest issue is that even though he is 100% responsible, he has zero control

He should not have to agree to her terms in addition to being the one to pay, pay, pay. I read posts here sometimes and it is so awful what some LIFers are having to put up with. I assume he did not get to pick the orthodontist either. What if he wanted to shop for a better price or knew of a Dr. that he preferred?

We have dental insurance ( more of a dental discount plan I should say)
She sent him a letter asking him if this peticular ortho was covered under his plan, and he was ( and was one of the few that were in her "area") So he agreed ....
With our dental plan, we were only allowed to choose one regular dentist per family, so obviously we chose one close to our home .....BM was none too thrilled to travel 10 exits to get to it, but tough NOOGIES !!

He should of been able to meet the dr and being he's the one paying he should be the one to set up the payment arrangements. Sorry this happened to you both and hope that this office can give you a better payment option. My son has already had phase 1 done and we are waiting to start phase 2 but they let us pay $100 per month which wasn't bad at all because my sons dad gave us half so it was only $50 each. GL with everything.

I have had 3 kids in braces with 3 different orthos (dont ask) and they all offered monthly payment plans. So def. look into that. If it helps, the price seems the going rate, actually alittle cheaper than my older son's.

Thanks ....We had figured around the 5k-6k range so we are actually somewhat relieved and suprised that it was less than we expected....
We are just so annoyed that the BM went ahead and apparently agreed upon the payment arrangements when she doesn't need tp contribute a dime...Par for the course with her really, its just another way for her to make DH feel like all he is , is a checkbook unfortunately...

Wow, I read this thread when you first posted it and was too busy picking myself up off the floor to respond!!
But this is a GREAT update!!!!!!!! 
On one hand I'm so at BM for trying to pull a fast one on you guys; but I'm really more that DH followed up this time!!!!!
