I guess the who what's and whys are not important to me. An unarmed man was clubbed by another while having racial slurs spoke to him. I have no tolerance, none what so ever.
well IMO, that's a very linear way to look at it
i don't think she's being narrowminded at all. i think she feels the way ALOT of other people do. he was unarmed, and NOT committing a crime at the moment he was beaten. Could he have avoided it by NOT being there - YES! But i don't think it's right to call her narrowminded for feeling the way she does. JMO. (not taking sides here, just giving my honest opinion.)

so what do you mean by "linear way to look at it?"
and, all the aspects point to two things: hate crime. IMO

when i say linear
i mean, she is calling the guy totally faultless because he never stole the car
yes, the beating was wrong yes, the beating was out of hate
but i'm sorry, going into a neighborhood looking for trouble is wrong also, not as wrong as the beating, but wrong nonetheless
you need to take that into consideration. these guys weren't on their way back from sunday school

i COMPLETELY agree with you on every point.
EXCEPT for the part about "take that into consideration"....
I look at it as if I were on the jury. would I want the jury to take into consideration that I was out there at 3am?? NO. In the jury's eyes, it is IRRELEVANT - WHY the kid was out there. All that matters in the LAW is that this guys civil rights were violated.

it is irrelevant. Since when are we allowed to take the law into our own hands? 3 black guys in a white neighborhood at 3 AM, so what? Thinking about stealing a car? So we are clubbing people for their thoughts? Bat boy should have called 911, was it even bat boy's car that they were thinking about stealing?

Re: Well, we made the front page again
They were paid 6000.00 dollars to steal that car! The only reson why they didn't steal it was because a light in the house came on. Im sure he knew why they were going to that neighborhood. If they got the car he'd be guilty just for being there!!!
Do I agree with the beatings NO WAY!!!! Its so sad that in this day and age people still do this stupid crap! I hate that. But they weren't in that neighborhood to make friends!

Re: Well, we made the front page again
just for the record - i happen to be 99.9% POSITIVE - ANY lawyer will tell you this -
In front of a jury - it is IRRELEVANT that he was out there at 3am - it can be argued, by the defense lawyer of course - "well he had no business being out there at 3am" - while that may be true, it does NOT matter. if a woman walking down the street at 3am got raped, does that mean she deserved it?? ask any lawyer, and i bet you i'm right.. come on don...you're up for a little wager, no???

tell us what? Sorry but I also have my doubts that this occurred at 3 am. Once I was in a robbery and it was during restaurant hours. The place was owned by the right people who had something to do with the paper reporting the next day that robbery took place 2.5 hours after actual time. They were scared that no one would go to restaurant since it happened during business hours. In the paper, they actually also had "witness accounts" of what went on by people who were not even there or existed.

The car could have been stolen at 4 in the afternoon. I don't think it has to much to do with the time it happened! Both groups were up to no good!

so what? what are you saying really? I have no idea. You bumped this post, I was going to let it die, no one has said anything. We agree it was a hate crime. We agree that a car was intended to be stolen. What is this story missing for you Don? That I said he was innocent? Turn on Law and Order, he was. No car was stolen, no crime was committed.
