Went to BJ's today in order to join, but didn't
The last 2x I went there, I left the store completely disgusted and aggravated with the LOOOOOOOOONG lines and idiotic cashiers!  and this was during the week in mid afternoon.
so I took DH there today (his 1st time there) and it was MOBBED and I mean, you could barely walk down any aisle. I know it's 1 week before Christmas, but their long lines seem to be the status quo 
I wonder how Costco is by comparison. 
PS: they had Citizens jeans there for $80

I've never been to BJs, but the lines in Costco are always ridiculously long. They are all the same

really? dammit!  at least Costco is right up the road from us. that's a plus. I also heard that Costco has a much better housewares and electronic dept and that they sell higher end stuff like Coach.
does anyone know if that's the case?

i guess it depends on the location, but the Costco by my is 100x worse.
BJs got worse lately though b/c they changed half of the registers there to "self check out", which is apparently a bad combination w/ the BJs set up.

we went to the BJs in middle village today at 12:00 and I was SHOCKED by how empty it was. No line at all.
Costco ALWAYS has long lines

I went to the one in Islandia
my other gripe with BJ's is that I HATE the layout! it honestly makes zero sense to me. they're offering me a 1 yr membership for $30 though, which is so reasonable!

Costco is a million times worst, and except for around holidays, they really don't have long lines at BJs. They have self checkout at the one in Levittown now too.

Which BJ's did you go to? The one in Westbury (where the drive-in used to be) doesn't really get that crowded because alot of people don't know it's there. 
(eta.. the one off Brush Hollow Road)

I've been a member at both and Costco is always more crowded and the lines are ridiculous.
I like BJ's because:
1. it's more like a supermarket
2. I can get gas there
3. they take coupons
4. more flexible payment... any credit card
I tend to go right after school mid week and it's usually not bad.
Right now, it's going to be crazy because people are buying last minute gifts and food for the holidays.
I'd suggest going around the dinner hour... maybe less people.

DH and I usually go to the one in Isalndia, too. We're early birds so we typically get there on a Sat or Sun at 8:30a or 9a and it's empty. We're usually done in about 30/45 minutes.

costco, weekends are packed but lines move quick. i normally go to the costco during the week to avoid the crowds or first thing in the morning on the weekends.
now because of xmas..its just busy just cause its xmas

We joined Costco and go to the one in Melville. I think its nicer than the BJs that Ive been to and Ive never stood in a long line. We dont go on the weekend at all but I think the store is set up nice, not hard to navigate through at all.

I go to the BJs in College Point Queens. In my experience, its an absolute madhouse no matter what time I go. I have gone on Monday mornings, I have gone on Saturday afternoons. Its nuts. Sometimes its actually hopeless to wait on the lines. I have waited an hour. I can only go when I am in a good mood and I am not rushing to go anywhere else after.
But I cant really compare it to Costco since I only went there a few times with my mom, there isnt one in my vicinity.

I went to Costco in Holbrook thos morning...got there at 9:40...was out by 10:45am!!
No lines and got everything we needed!!

I like BJ's.
I go to the one on 110.
I've never had to deal w/ long lines until last week, and I'm sure it's chaotic right now b/c it's peak holiday season.

I have always been a member of BJs so cannot compare the two. I have been to the one on RT 110 and in Westbury and maybe we've been pretty lucky, but not too too crowded. Unless you got at noon on a weekend before a holidays.

When DH and I know we're going to BJs we go on friday evenings, it's always EMPTY and they even have a self checkout now that makes it even easier. If you go on a saturday afternoon forget it.

The one in Islandia is ALWAYS packed. We had a membership and only went twice in 1 year because the lines were always so insane. People are really pushy there too.
