Went to DS 6 month well visit today and I forgot to ask a question about feeding solids. I need help!
The doctor spoke a lot about feeding solids, but I forgot to ask one question.
The doctor told me he should be having two to three meals a day. One of them being cereal and the others being fruit/vegetables. As of right now I give him two jars of food a day (Morning and evening) and about 4-5 6oz bottles.
My question was when do I feed him the solids? Do I give him a bottle first and then an hour later give him food. Or do I give food first and an hour later give him a bottle? Of course this has been bugging me for a while, and I forgot to ask.

Children get most of their nutrition from their bottles in their first year. Food at this time is more for practice, not nutrition. I was always told not to necessarily give the food right when you would normally give a bottle. Space it out.

I usually give the food and then wait a half hour and give the bottle. I don't overstuff DS with food so he always still wants the bottle.

9:30 breakfast
10 nap
12 bottle
1:30 lunch
2:00 nap
3:30 bottle
4:30-5 dinner
6:30 smaller bottle

Here's our schedule:
Bottle
then about 2 hours later (9ish) breakfast
cereal and a fruit
then around 12 another bottle
then about 2 hours later lunch
veggie and a fruit
then dinner around 5- veggie and a fruit
then a bottle 2 hours later
so 3 meals and 3 bottles per day
bottles range from 4-8 ounces depending on Abby's mood...

thats pretty much my schedule too.. i switch the lunch.. DC has veggies, then a bottle..
mostly, the bottle and the solid are an hour apart..

I space them out, but always nurse first. That should still be their main source of nutrition so the food I give afterwards, usually an hour later.

my ped always said that formula/breastmilk was most important. that should come first. DS was never a big eater so we always had to wait at least an hour after bottles before feeding him solids.

i really dont think it matters. I think its whatever is easiest for your routine.
I did the bottles, then an hour later did the solids.

I always did bottle then food.... so it was typicaly bottle about 45 minutes prior to eating and he ate at the same times i did
