Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

The ped said he should be off at one year.

I had him off all bottles at 1 year, 2 wks. It was a gradual process, the last one to go was the bottle just before bed.

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

totally off at 2.

From 15m to 24m she was really only having a bedtime bottle.

I let daycare move her off bottles and onto sippy whenever they wanted to. So they just made it happen. I started the sippy at home around 18m and then it was just that last bottle of the day.

At her 2yr check up they point blank said ENOUGH! and so I agreed and waited for that weekend then just took it away. She cried for it but got over it after awhile. For 3days it was hit or miss with the amount of crying but really she was done right there and then, cold turkey.

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

DS is 14 months and still gets 2 bottles a day (morning and bedtime). He dropped his afternoon bottle altogether.

Ped wants him off the bottle completely by 18-20 months. I've tried a few times with no success. I'm going to try an adult straw b/c the sippy cup straws seem very hard for him.

13 months because he didn't really care about them - he loved his straw sippies so we just started using those.

DD is still on bottles because she makes a mess with sippies Chat Icon but we'll probably be transitioning her around 13 months as well.

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

My first DD was weaned at 11 months...but that was really just by chance.

My second DD is now 23 months and she just flat out refuses to transition. We have total melt downs if I so much as try and put milk in a sippy. Everything else she drinks from a sippy.

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

At 12 months, DD was on 3 bottles a day, and sippy cups during the day.

By 18 months, she was on 2 bottles a day, sippy cups during the day

Just shy of 2 years, we cut out the bottle...just stopped one day, and used a sippy cup that was easy for her....never looked back.

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

My ped said he wants them off bottles by 18 months. At 15 months, over a few days I dropped the morning and afternoon bottles. As you know they won't take milk from a sippy, so they don't get any milk other than their night bottle. I probably won't get rid of that one until they are close to 18 months.

In order to ease the transition a little I started giving them their bottles closer and closer to meal time. Like they used to get bottles about a half hour to an hour after breakfast/lunch. I moved it up gradually until I was giving them the bottle in their highchairs right after they finished eating, then started giving it with the meal. Eventually I just stopped giving it and they were fine with just their water.

What kind of sippy cups do you recommend? I am trying to get my girl to take the sippy cup and I have 3 different kinds but she doesn't seem to enjoy any. I haven't talked to my ped about this but i would like to work on the transition to sippy cup only b/c my friend had problems with her daughters teeth!

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

DD is 14 months and still taking 3 bottles
one btw 5-7 am, depending on when she wakes up
another around 11-12 for naptime and one more before bed at about 7pm
She DOES NOT go to sleep without a bottle so I am scared what life will be like w/o bottlesChat Icon

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

I see no rush to eliminate bottles at a year. It used to be the magic # most peds. told parents, but now things are changing. I've had two pediatricians since Johnny was born and both said 12months-24 months was fine, but to try to have them done with bottles by 2.

Johnny took a bottle at night and morning till 19 months. Then we stopped. He got over it quickly.

Ryan still has 2 bottles a day. He is great with cups, but he LOVES his nighttime bottle most of all. Does not bother me in the least. We sing songs and read books while he has his bottle, then he goes to bed. He is 19 months and i think it'll be harder with him than johnny to eliminate..but i plan to do so within the month. We'll see!! I don't feel pressure though. They are babies for such a SHORT time, I felt sad when bottles were done Chat Icon

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

16 months. The first week she refused milk, chocolate milk, or strawberry milk in a sippy (and we tried new sippys too) but after 1 wk she would drink chocolate milk in the sippys so that is what we give her (as the Ped. said chocolate milk was fine to give).

DD#1 - 13 months

DD#2 is 10 months now. I have given her 1 type of sippy so far and she hates it so I guess I will have to start the annoying task of buying every type of sippy out there to see which one she likes the best! Chat Icon Chat Icon

All of my kids were just shy of 2 years old......

Im old school and dont see why it's necessary to rush things....

IMO they are still babies and if they want to have a bottle they get a bottle....

ITA! My DDs are 27 months and 15 months and they BOTH still drink 3 bottles per day. They also both know how to drink out of sippys and straw cups but prefer the bottle, so I give it to them. I really could care less what they drink their milk from to be honest. It's not a developmental issue, so I let them have their bottles. Chat Icon

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

our ped wanted us off at 1 year so i cut out the afternoon bottles just after his well visit. So he was getting 1am and 1bedtime baba, everything else in cups.

DS is 16mo and we just cut out the morning one, so the only bottle is at nite. which we'll cut out in a few weeks.

my mom, MIL , coworkers all looked at me like i was nuts and was like "he's just a baby."

No..he's 16mo and a toddler and im F*** tired of cleaning dr. browns bottles. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would start cutting out the afternoon bottles if you can. some parents do cold turkey. I didnt think that would work for us.

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

We stopped daytime bottles at like 13 months (we did a slooowwww transition to whole milk bc of sensitivity issues).

The night one I kpt her on just to make sure she was getting at least a full 8oz in a sitting. I think we stopped the night one at 15 months.

Re: what age did you drop all bottles?

Can I ask if you (all) mean by "bottles", the actual vessel in which you are giving milk or do you mean "scheduled servings of milk"?

Ann is 20 months and I will still on occassion give her milk in a "baby bottle" when she wakes up in the morning because it does not leak like every other sippy/straw/what have you ... so I know I can give it to her in her crib while I'm still trying to get dressed.

She also still gets a morning "serving" of milk and a nighttime "serving" of milk ... again in whatever I feel like giving it to her in.

She drinks from an unlidded cup at daycare.
