What age did you transition to a bed?
DD will be 2 in April.
lately we are having probs with her waking up in the middle of nite and coming into our bed to sleep. Shes restless, kicks, tosses and turns...making my sleep HORRIBLE. Nothing is wrong, no teething, not sick....just gotten used to us getting her I guess
No- we havent tried the CIO yet...DH rather get her instead of hearing her cry. I know that is our next step.
Part of me thinks, shes done with the crib...IDK.

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
DS will be 2 in May and we are contemplating moving him to a toddler bed soon...but more because #2 is coming in March
How does Gianna get out of the crib? does she climb out or you take her out?

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
I am not doing it for a while, Christopher is the same age.
Personally, I'd try CIO first, then maybe the bed. But you may have to do CIO IN the bed,w hich would be harder b/c she can just leave, KWIM?

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
I think if she is in a toddler bed she will definately come into your room everynight....this is my fear as well
maybe she is teething? maybe she needs to CIO? DS usuallyy cries a bit but we just let him do it since I dont want to start a bad habit
does she have a crib toy? DS usually puts on his aquarium and then falls back asleep

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
We did it shortly after DS was born - she was 22 months maybe...we put her in one night and she refused to go back in her crib since then. We made a bad habit of laying with her till she fell asleep and had to do CIO for about a week after that, but now she knows the drill.
We put up a gate at her door so she won't have her door shut and be scared. We leave the door opened a crack and there is a gate so she can't escape!

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
We just went through this with DD again! I do CIO and she hasn't been in our bed for 3 nights now. She is still waking but not taking as long to go back to sleep. It's so weird too because she goes down great for naps and bedtime. Last night I went into her room after letting he cry for 15 minutes and rocked her put her down and told her in a stern voice ( advice curiosity of Summer) and told her that it was bed time and time to go to sleep and she went to sleep.
I think it is a phase and it will end. If you think that she will sleep in the bed then I say go for it but I don't think it is going to stop her from waking and coming into your bed. DS will be 3 in April and he is still in a crib and I really don't think he is ready for a crib.

This was and is my plan (except my girls are 20 mos apart and I didn't feel the need to rush her into a bed at that age). I'm 3 months late though--DD will be going into her big-girl bed within a week, hopefully.

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
I moved DD from the crib to a twin size bed when she was a little over 2. I put the full rails up on the sides, and she did great.

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
My son was forced into a bed at 22 months because his sister came along.... If she hadn't, he would have been in it much longer since he loved his crib.
DD is 2.5 and I feel bad saying it, but I have NO plans as of yet to move her out of her crib. She loves it, sleeps well, has no interest in climbing out, it's like her little safe haven. We are thinking of getting her a bedroom set in the spring, and she will be 3 at that time.
In any case, once they are in a bed, it's 1000x harder to keep them in it. So if she's coming into your bed, I think you should try CIO and see how it works... Start it on a night where neither of you have to get up in the morning and take it from there. Good luck!

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
Noooo!! Don't do it Debbie!!!!
Jake was always a good sleeper and when we transitioned to the toddler bed at 3 years old (yeah, we THOUGHT we waited long enough ) he now gets up at least three times after we put him down. The bedtime insanity begins with "I have to go to the potty", 15 mins later it's "I need a glass of water", which in 20 mins of course leads to "I have to go to the potty again" and then twice at 2am I've caught him trying to sneak into our bed (which I do not allow).
All I'm saying is that if she is getting up now, the toddler bed will probably just make it worse. I would say wean her off the night wakings (CIO) first, then move on to the toddler bed or she might just end up in your bed permanently instead because it'll be that much easier for her to get there.
This next one...stays in the crib until he/she goes to college.

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
I want to keep her in the crib as long as physically possible And I agree with others, you may have to try CIO with her now in the crib, I don't see the issues getting any better with her in a bed in her room.

Genevieve has been in her toddler bed since around 14 months....she just moved into a twin (top bunk) at 3 years old.
Little Billy just moved into a twin (no toddler bed - bottom bunk) at just about 20 months

My son was 2 years and 3 months. He didn't even notice he was sleeping anywhere different, he took to it right away.

Same situation here! DD was 2 in October and she can climb in and out of her crib, but sleeps without issue at night and during naptimes. She loves it...its like her little clubhouse. Some days she'll climb in and sit in there for over and hour just reading her books and talking to the one million stuffed animals she has in there with her. The longer you can keep them in the crib, the better!

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
I think it depends. If you think DC is ready I would try and see. DD is only 16 months and she is already trying to climb out of her crib and sometimes I feel like she'd be fine in the toddler bed in few months. I used to babysit a little boy and his parents put him is the toddler bed at 18 months and he did just fine. I personally could never do CIO . It's just something I never understood(That's just me, I know it works for many parents and kids) Maybe it's b/c DD has always been a good sleeper(mostly). Good luck and I hope you start getting some sleep soon

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
For my DD, she will be 2 in March and she too wakes up in the middle of the night. We just go in and lay her back down and she falls aleep on her own. I think just seeing us comforts her. We never took her out and put her in the bed with us to sleep though.
We are expecing #2 in April so she needs to be in a bed by July the latest. We have ordered a big birl bed for her and we will try in April when she turns two. I have my doubts too. Good luck!

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
Deb..we transitioned Anthony around 19 months. He was waking up at night and was very restless. He also was getting too big for the crib. As soon as we put him in the bed, he was sleeping through the night again.

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
I personally plan on keeping Jack in the crib for as long as possible. By moving her to a big bed I think you are just helping her get out even easier.
What happens if you don't take her into bed with you?

Re: What age did you transition to a bed?
We changed DD's crib to the converted toddler bed when she turned 2. She did incredibly great! At first, she didn't get up at all.....I don't think she knew what to do. Now when I put her in, she'll often get up within 1 minute, I lay her back down and she stays. I think it's a little game in her mind----"I knock and mommy, you answer!" She doesn't wander out in the night. In the morning when she wakes up, she walks out to the couch, cuddles up and waits for either DH or I to get up. I hear her walking so I am up within a minute.
ETA: We transitioned b/c we felt she was ready. She was sleeping through the night and not really trying to climb out.
