What am I going to do-Carpal Tunnel Surgery..anyone have it???

I have had Carpal tunnel syndrome for like 8 years off and on in it's severity.

After the twins PG the symptoms are horrible. Chronic constant pain. Can barely feel my fingers, feed the kids etc. Wake all night long, numb for hours in the am.

So I had another nerve test done, and it showed severe nerve compression, Dr. Wants to do surgery on both hands.

The right hand surgery is scheduled for Oct 6th.

I'm scared. I dont think I can do this.

I finally started to read up on it and all the patient accounts on the web are of the inability to do things at ALL for like 6 weeks. Like button pants, cook, clean.

How am I suppossed to feed, dress, drive around 3 kids and myself? I dont think I can? I will be alone all day every day . From 8-5. I started asking around for help and have some help the first week....but after that, it appears no-ones around. I dont really have the $$$ but am still looking to try to maybe hire someone. I am looking, havent heard anything, but I'm freaking out bad. Where can I find someone?

How am I gonna change diapers with one ( non dominant too!) hand? And cut up their food? And open the juice bottle?

Anyone have the surgery with kids and have advice?

I'm sick over this Chat Icon
TIA!

my mother had it done, and it was rough for her for a good week or two but it was the best thing she's done! she had both arms done. its been about two years and she feels great.

ETA: i know that you're worried you won't get things done, but it will be worth it later on!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I would keep looking to see if you can hire someone to help, even for a couple of hours. Or maybe your DH can help cut up the kids food for the next day when he gets home? Not sure if there's anything else he can do ahead of time for you.

I hope you get some help! Even more so, I hope you heal very quickly!

Maybe you can barter/trade with another mom that could help you and you can help her in return when you're better?
Good luck! Chat Icon

My mom had BOTH her hands done (not at the same time).

She got one done before the my DC was born and one the summer after, because she watches DC and was scared of not being able to lift.

Honestly, I don't think there is anyway you will be able to hold them the first few weeks.....I dont think my mom's dr rec. anything over 5lbs.
