What are you wearing when you give birth?
I was told I can bring my own gown (not one that is new and I love of course)..Im thinking about doing this since Im not too into hospital gowns. What are you ladies doing?

Wear the one they give you. It has the possibity of getting nasty with all the fluids and if you have your own it should have the arm snaps. Because I had the section the had to be able to get it off if there was an emergency and not disturb any lines I might have had

Is the material heavy/stiff?
The ob put me in such a heavy (& huge) gown for my exam. Now this post is making me think it would be so uncomfortable to give birth in that. I'd probably tear if off!

Hospital gown! One of the nurses even gave me a pair of scrub pants after delivering and I wore that with a tank top the rest of the day. It was nice to just throw them away after how nasty they got!

it wasn't stiff or heavy at all. if it was, the discomfort caused by the cotton is nothing compared to everything else going on!!!
To the OP - take it from the BTDTs... labor in someone ELSES stuff - don't bring your own!!! instead, maybe buy something cute to wear when you leave the hospital and have visitors at home.

good point. Now I'm picturing ppl asking about my birth story & me saying, "oh it was great...except for the heavy gown!"
Anyhow, glad to hear it wasn't noticeably stiff or heavy.

Right after I give birth I'm planning on wearing the hospital gown BUT as soon as I can get up to take a shower, I am changing into my clothes and I am changing into my comfy terry cropped pants, nursing tank and hoodie.

i wore the gown.. it got all messy especially with the stuff they swabbed my belly with for the c section and lap band removal.

I'm with everyone else. It was a messy, sweaty, painful experience -- between the bloody show, the OB breaking my water, the nausea and almost throwing up, the cold cloth on my head to try to keep me from passing out, then all the crazy amount of blood... it was the hospital gown the whole time I was at the hospital until the day I left, but especially during labor. I did keep my socks on though (it was January). They still have a little blood stain on them.
You can bring your own clothes if you want as long as they have full access. I liked how the hospital gown had snaps in all the right places for their needed access. And I liked having one less thing to think about. I remember changing into a black maternity dress I had after I showered when I was laboring at home and thinking it was pretty funny they had me change out of it right after I checked into the L&D room. But they were sooooo right!

Yup.
Trust me when I tell you- at that point you will not care if you are in a potato sack or buck azz naked.
And the gown will get ruined with blood, fluids, etc
Don't even worry about bringing something.
SOOOO not worth it.
Once you deliver and can change, you can wear your own clothes for the rest of your stay.
