Re: What are your elementary school hours?
UGH - that's a big change from last year.
However, just give it some time to become routine and it will be fine. If it makes you feel any better, my kids are out the door by 6:45 AM to before care, the bus comes for them there @ 8:05, and school starts 8:50 !! - They are first stop at drop off though, @ 2:55, and then I pick them up by 6:00 ........
I get them up at 6 - they are dressed/teeth brushed/beds made/shoes on/hair done and ready to go before TV / iPads are allowed. They get about 20/30 minutes of down time. (But they are boys, so getting ready is probably easier) The eat breakfast @ before care. Sometimes I give them a yogurt as we are running out the door as well.
Then there's baseball games, and hockey practice (3x a week)
Our lives are literally organized chaos - and organized is a relative term !!
Good Luck! It will get better!

OK so I see it's a mix of starting in the 8 am range and the 9 am range.
We used to be 915 to 315. Which to me, for little kids, was a reasonable time.
We had some schools close in our district and they redid the start times of the schools. I wasn't' aware of this but there are early start and later start elementary schools. I am assuming because of buses and the need to stager the start times so the buses could accommodate all the elementary schools in the district.
Our school is now an "early start" school- which means 830 am to 230 pm.
It didn't seem so bad when they first told us, but the bus is now coming at 8 am on the DOT. The school is only 5 min away but the bus shows up at 8 am on the dot. (last year he would show up closer to 15 min from start time- so close to 9 am). This is a new driver and a new route I guess.
this morning she almost missed it. Had to run down the block to catch it
She's tired. I have to wake her each morning. She also used to have time to ease into her day, eat a leisurely breakfast, take her time getting ready, watch a little TV.
I think our kids might go to the same school lol We had 9:15 that changed to 8:30 thanks to schools closing and redistricting. Now I have to pack lunches the night before and drag kids out of bed. The bus came at 7:55 this morning and we were only just crossing the street. Two other families were running too. We were told to be at the stop half hour early which would be 8am. Yesterday and the day before the driver got lost and was asking the kids where to go. Only K,1 and 2 sit near the front. Anyone that could possible know how to get to school was in the way back of the bus. I have a feeling I will be spending a lot of mornings at the drop off circle from hell this year!
LOL. It probably is the same school! And that was us too this morning with the bus coming early and us running down the street.
I looked right at my kids and yelled RRUUUUNNN I'm not driving you lol They know mommy doesn't do the drop off line at school. I did it once NEVER again lol hopefully tomorrow we will both get to walk to the bus stop instead of a morning run!
OMG - the "stop and drop" line @ school is seriously more intimidating than an executive presentation! I WILL NEVER !!!!

Thanks! I used to love when she was in daycare because she was dropped off whenever I was ready. We left together and that was that. There was no deadline like with the bus. I did institute a new rule today- when you get up, you have to get dressed, brush your hair, brush your teeth, etc. Basically be 100% ready to leave the house and THEN you can watch TV or the Ipad. She wasn't to happy with having to jump out of bed and get into her clothes immediately (we got some real teenager like attitude lol) but this morning was so much smoother and no running for the bus!
I am sure it will get better once we get in the groove, like anything. It was just such chaos these past few days and I was ending up late for work every damn day this week!

Wow, ours isn't bad at all. You just pull up to the door and drop off. Easy peasy. What makes it bad at your school?

While waiting to make the left into the school you have people doing like 50 both directions through the school zone. Only about half the people follow the rules so everyone else is honking and screaming. It's really stressful and honestly my son was scared the one time we did it so I swore I would never do it again lol My daughter has trouble getting her seat belt off so I can't imagine what the other cars would do when she takes extra time to get the belt undone. It's crazy! I'm sure if I braved it more often i could get the hang of it but I'll just run for the bus instead lol

What are your elementary school hours?
My DD is 4 years away from kindergarten but the schedule is 815 to 245. Luckily the elementary school is 5 mins from my house. ETA: I don't believe they have busing until middle school because that is located on the other side of town.

8.15 am to 3.05 pm
We drive the kids to school as the bus arrives at 7.45 and we need every minute we can get in the morning. Some kids arrive at school at 7.30 am.
ALL change is hard. You think that you will never manage it and that its just plain awful but you know what you will adjust and so will your DD. She may just have to go to bed a little earlier to adjust her natural wake up time. My kids have been exhausted this week as they were going to bed so late during the summer. I implemented an earlier bed time last night and they both slept well and were awake before me this morning.
We get clothes out the night before, make sure the lunch boxes are clean and ready to go, make sure we have their snacks in the cupboard and ready for packing, check for their specials so if they have library etc their book is already in their back pack.
You WILL adjust...it just takes time.
Thank you! Yes, we need to get into a groove. I have been instituting a more strict (and earlier) bed time with her since school started, knowing about the earlier schedule. I also need to get up earlier myself, to get myself in order, but it's so hard because I am SOOOO not a morning person and getting up is just a huge huge effort for me. It's like I'm in a coma .
I think we just have to work out some kinks and it will be ok.
It just annoyed me that we had to change our school's schedule that everyone was used to. My district is a real winner, on not just this, but a lot of things.
Can you or DH drive her so you get more time and don't have to work around the bus's schedule.

Re: What are your elementary school hours?
9:05 til 3:28.
And last year the principal introduced "sibling walk" basically both girls go in and are dismissed from the same door. My 4th grader walks down to her sisters class and walks out with her class. So easy. We live too close for a bus.

Re: What are your elementary school hours?
We have 2 elementary schools. Grades K-2 is 820-225 and bus comes 7:40. I think this is reasonable - yes it stinks to wake kids up at 7 but honestly on weekends they dont seem to wake up much later than that anyway. Grades 3-5 is 925-325. To me, this is an extremely late start. Plus it is very hard for working parents who need to be at work by 9 and now have to pay for before school care.

Re: What are your elementary school hours?
7:40-2:40
But she's dropped off at 7am and picked up around 6pm.
Meh life.. it happens.
That's what aftercare program is for
ETA: I live 2min drive from school so sometimes its 7-7:15 but meh she gets there. Bell rings at 7:35. The school won't open the doors any earlier than 7am. I know I've stood there waiting. 7am on the dot for cinnamon roll day because that line gets so long so quick. Otherwise I generally no longer care at long as its around 7:15ish. But until 2nd grade we ate breakfast every morning with her so we were there at 7am, left at 7:30am :) Since we both work she isn't picked up until 6pm, period.

See, I don't think it is that early. I commute and my school doesn't offer before care, I would be SCREWED if my DS didn't go in at 7:45 (truthfully it is a mad dash for me but I make it by 9am)
I live in the city so we don't share buses, that is an LI thing, but I don't think I could live in a town where elementary school started so late!

What are your elementary school hours?
We're in Queens, but DD's school hours (Pre-k) are 7:55 a.m. (which I find so early) to 2:40 p.m. I believe elementary is the same start time to 3:00 p.m.

Yeah I guess it's what you are used to. Plus I have a DH who is a stay at home dad so I don't have to worry about before and after care- and for that I am very very grateful. I think if she had started with these hours I'd be ok with it but it's the switch that is killing us. She is like me- not a morning person at all.
