Not for me.

But to each their own. I wouldn't look down on parents that do spank. I was spanked as a child... not that often, but I was.

I believe a slap on the butt or a slap on the hand does wonders. Beyond that, not for me.

Not for me, I just can't see myself raising a hand to my kids.

Not for me, though I don't look down upon it as long as it isn't abusive. My parents never spanked us, and honestly, it's just not something I even think to do.

Imfine with it within reason of course. I have spanked ds a few good slaps on the bottom never hurt anyone. I have also slapped his hands. To take out a belt, well that is to far IMO.

DD occasionally gets spanked on the tush but it's never hard. It's more used as a way to scare her (which sounds terrible but it's not!) If you don't stop hitting your sister, you'll get spanked. Or if you don't pick yourself up off of the floor and stop screaming, you'll get spanked. It's rare we do it, but have on occasion.

If I won't tolerate them hitting me, why should they tolerate me hitting them? So, no, not for me.

Re: what are your opinions on spanking kids?

Not for me. I have seen my sister and her friend spank their kids on their bottoms but it has zero effect on the kids so why bother? I find a time out to be very effective when I want DD to cool her heels.

Re: what are your opinions on spanking kids?

I've smacked DS's butt a few times if he was totally out of control or did something I thought could be dangerous (like running into the street or parking lot). DS always wears a pull-up and has never had as much as a red mark on his butt so it's not hard by any means.

ETA: The few times I've done it, it hasn't worked.

I actually dont think a 3 yr. old can rationalize that mommy can hit them for doing something wrong, but than they can't hit another person/child when they do something wrong. I think it sends mixed signals.

ITA. at the same time every child is different I don't think every child needs this. my DS does for major things , he doesn't listen. He has needed this maybe 6 or 7 times in his 2 years of life.

for Ex I smacked his leg bc he put the bottom of his shoe on Newborn DS face. I told him to stop 3 times, the 4th time he was smacked and he never did that again.

Re: what are your opinions on spanking kids?

I think it sends the wrong message to your children - first, I think it's fairly hypocritical to expect your children to refrain from hitting, if you model the opposite behavior. Second, it demonstrates to them that intimidation by physical threat, even if small, is acceptable.

If it were the only effective means of discipline I would be more accepting, but I think there are a multitude of other, non-physical methods of discipline that are just as, if not more, effective, so there's no justification for it.

Personally, I was raised in an environment where I was never, not once, hit by my parents in any way, shape or form, and I was a VERY VERY well disciplined child, as were my brothers.

Re: what are your opinions on spanking kids?

I see no issue with a spank on the hand or butt. I get that it's not for everyone, but it has had it's moments and uses in our household.

Re: what are your opinions on spanking kids?

I don't spank. I don't think it's 'bad' - just not really something I think would be effective for my 2 boys. If others do it.. their business. I actually have less of a 'problem' with people who spank than with parents who freak out and verbally abuse their kids because they feel spanking is taboo. It's like.. you won't swat their butt.. but you'll scream like a lunatic and call them names?

ITA! Verbal abuse is WAY worse that a smack on the butt...IMO.

Re: what are your opinions on spanking kids?

Among other things, I think it sends a confusing message especially if the spanking is punishment for aggressive behavior. To each their own, but its not for me.
