What do I do, Nighttime Bottle 16 months

Ok, so I KNOW I started a BAD habit... But DS is 16 months old and still gets ONE bottle a day and UNFORTUNATELY it's the nighttime bottle that he MOST times falls asleep with. Do I REALLY need to stop this? He falls asleep fine by himself for naps and puts himself back to sleep when he wakes at night. So, putting himself to sleep is NOT the issue. This is just part of our nighttime routine and honestly, I like that cuddle time since he has NEVER been a cuddler at all. Do I really need to cut this part of the routine out now? If so, how? Any words of wisdom or BTDT experience is MUCH appreciated.......

Thanks so much! For some reason this is stressing me out BAD today....

TIA

you might miss it more that he will.....well, thats what i found when i cut out the nighttime BF session that was a part of my DD's routine. i was cringing the night i put her to bed w/o it thinking she would go nuts looking for it. she never seemed to notice and i was shocked. i made such a big deal of it in my head thinking it would be so hard and it was nothing.
she was younger than your DS though so that could be a factor in the ease of it. she was 10months. instead i just started giving her a sippy cup instead and now thats part of the routine. if your DS puts himself to sleep in the daytime he will likely have no problem doing that at night too. good luck if you decide to go through with it!

in re-reading your post i see that you value the cuddle time the bottle affords you and i understand that! maybe you can make a time cut off and pro-long it until hes 2 years old. i don't think one bottle a day is so bad!

I honestly don't think that a nighttime bottle at 16 months is bad...especially since its your routine and you snuggle up with him during that time. Some people rush to get their kids off the bottle which is fine if the child is fine with it... Let him have it...I wouldn't worry about changing this habit until he is two.

Thank you all so much for your responses. I have DREADING cutting out this bottle because I love that he lets me hold him at that time, and he's just growing up so quick.......Chat Icon

But, I get the pressure from the outside all the time that I need to cut out that bottle and I was starting to think that I was doing him (and me) a dis-service by letting him still have it.

THANK YOU ALL!
