What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
Nothing? A freaking lot?
A small deductible?
2nd question Are you planning on getting a private room?
BTDT moms, what's your opinion?
I don't know if I would want to spend the cash on the room It’s like $700 more I think
The diff is the room (obviously)
DH would get to stay over---but why would he EVER stay over? We live walking distance to the hospital.
The visiting hours are more lax, but that could also work in your favor. You may not want so many visitors around the clock
Just curious

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
depends on your health insurance, with dd it cost nothing for her delivery, which i was so happyand surprised about..and i delivered at stonybrook so all the rooms are private..def going there again, bc it was nice. My friend just paid for a single room at southside and since she had a bad revoery from her csection the first day she was very happy that her husband arranged the room.

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
For the OOP expenses, I'd check with your insurance. Mine covers my delivery & stay 100% and I was told that there's no oop costs, but I know a lot of people who have had to pay co-pays, etc. so it varies...
I'd like a private room, but I'm not willing to pay for it. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that it's $250 / night at the hospital I'll be delivering at & I've heard that they're small and there's very few of them. I figure I'll try the roomie thing this time & if it's really bad I'll spring for a pvt room with our next baby...

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
What you pay out of pocket depends entirely on your insurance company/plan. If you call them up, they should be able to give you a general breakdown.
I desperately wanted a private room, but the hospital I'm delivering at (NSUH, Manhasset) charges a crazy amount ($700/night is what I heard). I figured I'd suck it up for 2 nights and deal with a roommate. I can't imagine DH wanting to stay overnight anyway. If it were half the price, I'd do it, but I'm not spending that kind of $$.

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
depends on your insurance. we have Cigna & we only pay $300 deductible when we leave the hospital. If the baby has to stay behind, then we pay an additional $300
I will be delivering at South Nassau which only has private rooms. So there is no extra expense we must pay. We already had our insurance approved from them

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
I would suggest you contact your insurance company since all plans can be different. This way you know what to expect when all is said and done.
The hospital I am delivering at has all private rooms, so there is no charge for me on that one.
When I delivered DS, we paid a $250 copay to the hospital and my insurance covered everything else.
With DC #2 due in December, my insurance has changed slightly and I believe it will end up being a $300 copay.
It really seems like nothing when you look back at what the hospitals charge your insurance. Last time it was over $20,000!!

I have Empire BCBS and have a $300 deductible. other than that everything should be paid for.
I'm delivering at Winthrop and plan on getting a private room. they charge $220 a night extra. for me i think its worth it. thats really a personal decision.

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
My deductible is $250 for any maternity charges and the private room is $200. The insurance will pay $100 towards a private room so its costing us $100 each night for the private room and to us its worth every penny... My DH is not comfortable with all kinds of strangers especially on such a big occasion like this and he wants us to enjoy this time without other people's families in and out he says its bad enough ours will be there... LOL.

My only expense was that I got nailed with like $1000 from Ryan being in the NICU. Apparently, one of the MDs who saw him, wasn't in our plan

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
For our insurance the deductible is $1000 per person with an out of pocket maximum of $2000 per person, yes the baby counts as a person. Also for me, anesthesia is only covered at 80% so I will likely look at a $4000 hospital bill. At the hospital I am delivering at all rooms are private. Every room has a bed for the mom and the dad. When DS was born DH stayed over. Since my parents are staying here with DS, DH will stay with me.

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
In regards to the private room...I recommend a gazillion percent. In fact, once Iam out of the first trimester we are going to start saving for it because it was a godsend. I had my own bathroom, my DH could stay overnight with me and I could have visitors come and go without disturbing anyone. I ended up needing a C section so I was in the hospital for a longer period than expected but it worked out so well since we had out own space and could have the baby room with us while I got used to breastfeeding and taking care of her. In my opinion it was absolutely worth the cost. Another huge plus is that you know who the visitors are as opposed to rooming with someone who has a ton of people visiting and you have strangers coming in and out of your room.

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
All the rooms are private at the hospital I am delivering at (northern Va). Just called my insurance company and there is a $100 copay and some $500 dollar max charge. In my mind its pretty good coverage; I'm happy. Again each insurance company is different but it only took one phone call to figure it all out.

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
it depends on your ins. I had a $250 copay and then had to pay 10% of the costs.
ETA: I kind of liked having a roomate. She was someone to talk to when neither of could sleep in the middle of the night, and in the morning before we had any visitors.

Our co pay was $250, that's all we paid.
My hospital is all private rooms. I would probably pay for one if I had to.

My mom is still really good friends with her roommate from when my older brother was born in 1970! We used to go to their house as kids/teens and I wasn't born until 7 years later! It's sweet, so I'm going into it with an open mind this time...if I get a crazy person though, we'll see how it is next time around lol

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
I don't have info on OOP stuff.
I had a private room with Abby due to the nature of my delivery which suck ed. The nurse manager in the recovery room determined me eligible for a private room at no additional expense. I had an emergency c-section because Abby was in fetal distress. Because it was a c-section, I was in the hospital for four nights. I did not pay extra for it, but if I were to have another child, I would opt for a private room if I could afford to. When we have our next child, it will also be delivered by c-section as well.
One never knows how a delivery will go. I did not anticipate that I'd have a child in the NICU. I NEVER would have been able to deal with that if there was a person in a bed next to me nursing her child or getting visitors. I had my privacy. My DH could stay with me as long as I needed him to.
Bottom line, if you got the bucks, do it. If not, its no big deal. Women do it all the time.
ETA:
I just remembered my OB telling me it would have been cheaper to deliver and stay at the Waldorf with a private nurse than to have to pay for a private room - thought that was funny.

Depends on your insurance.
For the hospital we pay nothing. For my OB visits and sonograms it is a $15 co-pay per visit.
ETA: I delivered DS at South Nassau and will be delivering there as well. All the rooms are private.

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
With my insurance, I believe my co-pay is 500. As for a private room, I want one. DH thinks it is unnecessary.
Something tells me I will get what I want. I don't share well with others!
I think in your case-it depends on whether another person might annoy you. When I was in the hospital in February, the lady in the room was nice, but she was older and quiet. She didn't have many visitors, and everyone on the floor was sick or having surgery, so everyone was pretty good there.
I personally cannot sleep if someone is snoring loud or just being loud and I get cranky and nasty fast.
I guess it is personal to you. If having a roomie doesn't bother you, then I don't think you would need it considering DH is not staying overnight.

Ooh, do you think they would do deliveries at the Waldorf? They have great chocolate covered strawberries. I think I could manage that!

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
You have to check with your insurance, but I had a $250/copay. Considering my vaginal delivery (induction) was close to $13k, not so bad
I don't really think a private room is a nescessity honestly. I had a roommate my first night (I got to the room around midnight) and then she left and I didn't get another til that night around 8pm and then I left in the AM.
We have a dog, so DH wouldn't stay no matter what

I paid nothing out of pocket at NSUH. I didn't get a private room; it was loud the first night with two other roommates, but then I got lucky and everyone left.
I wouldn't pay for the private room, but you may luck out!

Re: What do we pay the hospital out of pocket after insurance when we deliver? Also Private room--would ya?
IMO, having a private room is great. I was in the hospital for 4 nights and had a private room for only 2 of them.
My roommate the first 2 nights was an inconsiderate nightmare and this time around, I will be requesting a private room as soon as I check in!

I took the hospital tour at NSUH- Manhasset and the private rooms range from $550 - $1700 for the corner private suites.

I have so much family I think out of courtesy to others I might have to have a private room. I think my mom and DH will both want to sleep over. They have both been stalking me to all appointments!
