What do you think about this comment?
My SIL's ped. just posted a sign in their office stating that they will not split up, nor delay any vaccinations. If any parents disagree on how the Academy of Pediatrics states as the schedule of vaccinations, they need to look elsewhere for a pediatrician. Pretty blunt, huh?

Re: What do you think about this comment?
I think that there are probably more tactful ways of stating their policies. However, I guess they just want to make it very clear where they stand on the immunizations so that parents don't have to waste their time. So I guess in a way, I see their point.
ETA: I would want a ped who is going to understand and support my parenting choices. I personally have not altered DS shots, but if I wanted to, I would be happy to know a peds stance up front so that I could move on and find someone who supports my decisions.

Very blunt but I guess they want to be clear on what their stance is on immunizations.

Re: What do you think about this comment?
I think they probably could have worded it differently but I also think its good to know where they stand.
When looking for a ped, one of the questions should be "what is your stand on vaccanations" Especially with all the controversy of this topic lately.
I personally am trusting my doctors, so if they say don't split them I am ok with that.

Re: What do you think about this comment?
I can understand their point too, but then I feel like the parents have no say whatsoever, which I think is wrong too. It's amazing how pediatricians can differ so much in their practice.

No, there is no reason for it to be legally done. Its an option available for parents. Usually insurance won't cover it split up...

Re: What do you think about this comment?
When we met one of our ped during our interview with them, we asked them how they stood on vaccination, spliting and delay.
The Ped told us that they were flexible to some extend but that NOT vaccinating, delaying by many months was not their philosophy and that if this is what we wanted that it would best in all interest to look elsewhere.
I thought it was fair and honest.

Re: What do you think about this comment?
I think it is their office, and you do not have to stay with them if it makes you (or your SIL) uncomfortable.

Me too. While it's good to know what their philosophy is on vaccinations, as a parent, I know I have the right to make those decisions for my child---not my ped. If they will not support & respect that, then it is better to find someone who will.

Re: What do you think about this comment?
Honestly, I don't blame them. The vaccination controversy is one huge lawsuit waiting to happen and they want to cover themselves as clearly as possible.
IMO, it's only a matter of time before one parent sues another over this.

Re: What do you think about this comment?
wow. I would look elsewhere ASAP.
My DD had a pretty severe reaction to her boosters at 4 months old and her ped now splits them up. Even thought he follows the AAP guidelines, he knows every kid is different and some require a different schedule.

Re: What do you think about this comment?
I think that is ridiculous. In fact, doesn't the American Academy of Pediatrics dictate that they should NOT act in this manner.
My ped had a very good point - when we first switched to him - he said he felt that it was peds that act like this that are the reason so many children are not getting vaccinated today. He felt that if more peds took the time to discuss with the parents their concerns and issues surrounding the vaccinations - as equals - and let them come to conclusions that the situation would be a lot better.

Re: What do you think about this comment?
I see nothing wrong with that...doctors have the right to do that if they so choose, just as parents have the right to use a pediatrician that will honor their wishes
