I think that there are probably more tactful ways of stating their policies. However, I guess they just want to make it very clear where they stand on the immunizations so that parents don't have to waste their time. So I guess in a way, I see their point.

ETA: I would want a ped who is going to understand and support my parenting choices. I personally have not altered DS shots, but if I wanted to, I would be happy to know a peds stance up front so that I could move on and find someone who supports my decisions.

My SIL's ped. just posted a sign in their office stating that they will not split up, nor delay any vaccinations. If any parents disagree on how the Academy of Pediatrics states as the schedule of vaccinations, they need to look elsewhere for a pediatrician. Pretty blunt, huh?

i personally think that it is great. No need to think or ask or wonder.
IMO blunt is the way to go.

As a person who goes to these peds i think that it is great for making an informed decision

any office that told me how to raise my child regardless of what it is i would be looking for a new peds. who wants to deal with an office like that.

Don't all peds. tell you how to raise your child to an extent? Isn't that what they are there for? They are supposed to be the experts when it comes to our children. They go through years of medical school to tell parents what to feed their children, how much to feed them, what foods to avoid, what shots they need, when to turn the carseat, what needs to be done concerning milestones, etc. etc. etc. Obviously if you don't like the way your pediatrician is telling you to raise your child, you switch.

I don't have a problem with the sign. I'm sure they had an issue or issues with parents and felt the need to put it out there. Up front and to the point. Perhaps the patients weren't paying the bills for split immunizations since insurance doesn't cover them, and they were being burned.

ITA. And see no reason a person would "leave" the practice, unless you disagree with your Pediatrician.

Personally I would not want lay people telling me how to do my job and I totally understand and appreciate that notice.

Re: What do you think about this comment?

I respect them for being upfront, and committed to their ideals in how they want to practice. That is part of the reason why I chose my pediatrician - yes, his views and his style are much like my own, but he also has very strong convictions and has no problem in telling me when he disagrees with me. I really respect someone who isn't a pushover, who feels strongly about something and is willing to fight about it because they feel that strongly about it.

If splitting vaccinations are that important to a parent, then they know upfront that the should go somewhere else.

Re: What do you think about this comment?

Frankly I think it is good that this pediatrician's office took A stance, regardless of which one it is. These physicians get the same calls and the same questions regarding immunizations and it takes A LOT of time for them to give the same answers over and over again. Other people are calling and coming in with sick children who need the attention/time more. I think it is better that they make their position known and give their attention to treating other patients. Anyone can change pediatricians if they are unhappy about it.

They are not telling you how to raise your child.
They are informing you about what they will and will not do at THEIR practice.
I have found a LOT of practices doing the same.

I don't think the general public or its consumers have the right to tell them how to run their facility

I agree with it. If that is the groups' philosophy, then they should stick to it and their patients should be of the same mindset. As professionals, if they don't feel delaying or slplitting is the best practice of medicine, they shouldn't be asked to compromise on that.

Re: What do you think about this comment?

On my Ped's website if you click on well visits and vaccines near the top of the page it says: " We adhere to a vaccine schedule endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics. The MMR vaccine will not be split. "

There are a group of Peds in the practice. The Ped I go to will delay vaccines, but he said they all agreed not to split up the mmr shot. He said I could delay it, but if I did not give it to my child by 2 years old I would have to look for another Ped. He was very nice about it.

I guess your sister's Ped was a little more blunt and maybe they could have went about it in a better way, but I think it is good that they are upfront about their policies.

ETA: The American Academy of Pediatrics does endorse a certain vaccine schedule. Here is their website: http://www.cispimmunize.org/

Same here.

And even if I were not looking to delay or split, I would not like the manner in which they felt the need to inform their clients.

I think they probably could have worded it differently but I also think its good to know where they stand.

When looking for a ped, one of the questions should be "what is your stand on vaccanations" Especially with all the controversy of this topic lately.

I personally am trusting my doctors, so if they say don't split them I am ok with that.

I agree also

I think it's fine - straight & to the point. It eliminates a lot of back & forth discussion as their policy is stated clearly.

If someone doesn't want to adhere to it, they can go to another pediatrician (just as the policy suggests).

In my drs office it states the same exact thing. Honestly, my degree requires a state license as well and I would not be willing to leave any "black holes" for my patients to skew what is being said. IMHO...these days you have to be direct so that you dont get sued in the end.

Re: What do you think about this comment?

Also --- say you don't want to immunize your child according to the CDC schedule.

Fine. Your Dr. goes by your wishes.

Your DC gets the measles.

You want to bring DC in to your pediatrician.

There are newborns in the waiting room.

NOW what????

And I think the Dr. would be GLAD if people who don't agree leave the practice....that's the point of the notice....they don't want to put their patients at risk, nor themselves.

I wouldn't be offended by it. They are probably sick of having the same arguments a thousand times a day, and wanted to just clarify their position upfront.

Lots of moms feel the same way as that ped group does, and the place would be a good fit for them.

That said, I WOULD be looking for a new ped, not because of the way the sign was worded, but because I do believe in delaying shots so I would not be able to continue going.
