What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
DH and I want the kids to be about 2 years apart.
I'm just curious what other moms think the ideal spacing is.
Moms of 2 or more, what is your age spacing of your kids? Would you rather have a different age gap between your kids if you could do it over again?
eta: I'd also like to know what moms of just one DC consider ideal age spacing.

I would like 2 or 3 years apart, but we'll probably have to have them 4 years apart. I do like the idea of only 1 in diapers at the time I guess

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
I did not want 2 under 2 so for me 2-2.5 years apart is ideal

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
I had originally wanted to wait 3 or 4 years, but then I decided I wanted them closer together, so I'm hoping for a little over 2 years apart.

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
For us - ideally 2 yrs apart. Realistically - IF we do it again (which is possibly a no) it will be at leats 4 years apart since he is almost 3

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
I always wanted 2.5-3 years apart. Even though we are not TTC yet I am so happy with this decision.
I feel first like I am ready to share myself iwth another child. I feel like DS is no longer a baby so I dont feel bad about thinking of having another DC. More importantly, I love that DS is so independent now, he plays independently and doenst hang on me as he did a year or so ago. I also can see in him that HE Is ready for a sibling and that excites me too.
I am hopign that DS and DC #2 will be just over 3 years apart.

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
Not sure if there will be a #2 for us. If there is, there will be a much bigger age gap. My daughter is the love of my life but she was/is high maintaince. I only started seeing her ability to "share" me in the last 6 months (she is 3 1/2). Not that I would base my decision on that, but also because the way my schedule is and the responsibilities that fall on my shoulders, it just wouldn't work any other way. I feel that DD would have to be in kindergarten before I could physically, mentally, and emotionally handle another child. And also it would help me give another child the attention that DD got. I would have loved to be able to handle 2 closer together and I commend all of you that do it!

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
Dylan will be 1 on Wednesday and I would love to start trying in the Fall. Dylan would be a little over 2 yrs old when DC #2 arrived (if worked as planned). Even if we had to wait a little longer, I think 3 yrs apart would be great!!

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
DD will be 14 months when DC#2 is born. I wanted them really close in age, and I'm excited about it, but I have to say, I'm nervous.

I always wanted the 2-3 year spacing too. My sister and I are 3 years apart and we got along very well as kids and now as adults.
But life had other plans and it looks like if I have another one, it will be about a 4 year age difference. I know a few people with this age difference and I've talked to them about it and it seems fine too.
At least now my DS is daytime potty trained (He still has overnight accidents so he wears a diaper to bed.)

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
I've been thinking alot about this as well, ideally I would like 2-2.5 yrs between them. I only have DD right now and she'll be 6 months next week, so we'll probably start trying this time next year.
But how do you plan if you've been BFing and still have not gotten AF?

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
I am due in August, so Landon will be 26-27 months when the babies arrive. If I was having 1 baby it would be the perfect age difference.... but I am having twins so its a little close but I'll survive!

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
I don't think there is one! My siblings and I were all born very close to one another and it was great.....but I know kids who were born years apart from one another and that's great too.

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
I don't think there IS an ideal difference.
My girls are 20 mos. apart and it's great--wouldn't change a thing. However, I did that once and with the 3rd, there was no way I wanted another 2 under 2 situation with three of them running around. Circumstances beyond my control led to #3 being spaced out longer than I would have liked, but in the end I am very pleased with the way things will turn out (God willing ). There will be 3.5 years between #3 and #2 and 5 years between #3 and #1.

my girls are 2 1/2 yrs apart and its ideal....we didn't really plan it that way, it just kinda happened....Samantha is independent enough to do things on her own and she is old enough to love her sister.... plus she <3 s to help, its like having a nanny!! lol!

I never wanted children too close in age. Ideally, I'd like DS to be 2.5-3 before #2 comes along.

Re: What do you think is the ideal age difference for siblings?
DD was 3 1/2 when DS was born and it was fantastic. Zero jealousy issues, DD was potty trained and independent, loved helping out with DS and it meant that I feel that both kids got undivided attention when they were infants as DD goes to preschool in the mornings and DS gets one on one time.
Having said that if we have a third we would need to go with the no more than 2 years spacing as time is a ticking for me and DH...the thought of 2 under 2 TERRIFIES me but from reading some of these posts it might not be so bad!
