I think that no matter where you go it is very important to try and negotiate.......It never hurts to ask if they can decrease the price per head, throw in extra stations, eliminate somethings to save money ect.......the worse that can happen is that they say no! I wish we would have negotiated a little more than just taking things that banquet managers said to us for face value.

How very exciting this is that they are finally "planning" it. They were over today and we were looking at dresses online - she has some really great ideas!!
yes, she called me and is very excited about the dress, sounds beautiful, I am trying to find in on line as we speak, she is so excited, she is so cute, she got all choked up talking to me about it just now

thanks, I just told her. Did anhyone has a horse drawn carriage? I know se wants this and me and my hubby wan tot get it for them as a surprise but I am not sure about price and the max miles for horses to walk.

Same here. Definitely photographer.
My friend had a lousy photographer and she gets upset everytime she thinks of her wedding day. 
We used Verdi too and loved them.

Where does she want to book (what area?)? My place included centerpieces and cake, which I didn't even think about at the time, but wound up saving quite a bit of money.
We splurged on the band and the chocolate fountain and I am so glad we did! I think everyone loved the fountain...
where was it? she is open to anywhere, looking at windows on the lake.
The Mansion at Timber Point in Great River...It's on the water on the South Shore. website: Not sure about current prices, and it wasn't cheap, but I was very happy with them (we also had a Nov. wedding). Timber Point If she likes Windows on the Lake she probably won't like Timber Point though--Windows is more glitzy while TP is more subdued...

IMO, I always tell people honeymoon should be a spurlge. I'm not saying to cheap out on your guests, but for me, when DH & I look back on our wedding day we're thrilled it went well and we had a great time, but have some regrets about $$$ spent. But when we think of our HM, we're so happy we went all out b/c that was our time together and it was such a great adventure to take to start off our marriage.

I agree with this - I was told spend money on the things that last beyond that day (honeymoon, pictures, video).

Yes and do an afternon instead of an evening. Also, use candles on the tables for CPs. Ask the Caterer to do a combined first course, like salad with a crabcake for instance instead of salad, pasta, then entree.

a big thing that saves money is to have a daytime reception. I got married at Jericho Terrace, and it was sooo much less $$ to do it in the afternoon. JT overall is an expensive hall, but I wanted to get married there bc the food is excellent. Don't spend too much $ on invitations

yeah, she is thinking Friday evening wedding in Nov, that should cut costs. Sh eis realistic, doesn't want ot splurge on invites, flowers, veil, all things we can do for 1/2 the cost. Food is very important to her, I think sh ei sheading in the rigth direction, thanks ladies

Absolutely. Music because it helps everyone have a great time. And phtography is a MUST!!!! You have to be able to capture the day!! I am really impressed by Angelica Glass Photography these days. I hadn't hear about her until after my wedding. She does amazing work!
