I used them too as was so unhappy with them 
I agree food, music, photographer but sadly in my case it was a mistake......

Our two big splurges were rings and the honeymoon. We stuck to a low budget for almost everything else and I don't regret anything about it.

in that order
things not to spend a ton on- IMO
wedding dress- just make sure you look and feel good in it
flowers- most people don't care- and would rather not have something in the center on the table - blocking seeing the people on the other side
invites- most people throw them away
favors- make a donation to a favorite charity instead
I totally agree. Although I loved my flowers and spent a good deal of change on them, they definately weren't necessary.

I went all out on two things. Food and photos.
I did not do a sit down wedding. I had passed foods and small stations throughout the mansion. I upgraded the food packages and liquor as well as having custom drinks, hot cider, funky stuff like that. I had custom deserts brought in, such as Tiramisu gelato and stuff like that. I did a candy bar as the favor...and exactly one month later, people are still talking about the food and deserts. I'm so happy I put the most effort into this. I didn't eat that nihgt, but I heard you couldn't get near some of the foods, people were going nuts.
Since I didn't eat, at least I'll have the photos to see what everything looked like

music, food and adding at least one unique personal touch. i am not a fan of "cookie cutter" weddings and tried my hardest to steer clear of that...

I agree except I put them at equal importance.
Food & entertainment were priority for our guests and the photographer & honeymoon were priority for us. We knew who & what we wanted...and we splurged on the honeymoon.

this is exactly the order I would put on things as well. Years later, people still comment about our food and music - much more than I look at my photos. I was just at a wedding with the worst food and it definitely sticks out! But I will give them the music was great! I didn't have to eat, b/c I was having a great time dancing!

ok, ladies, some great answers, so now for the next question, any decently priced catering halls? And any idea to cut costs? We will do her centerpieces, invites, veil, but hoe else can she cut costs? TIA, in this so very helpful sicve I hav enot planned in MANY years
well this time around it was my second wedding so i wasn't setting out to be fancy. we went with the meadow club in port jeff which was really reasonably priced. and it actually ended up to be beautiful the food was excellant and the maitre d and attendents were more than spoiling of me!!!

Food and music should be the main focus. A great centerpiece is nice but really, it's all about the music and food (well it's all about the couple for starters!! but after that it's all about the food/music). A decent selection of alcohol should be considered too, like top shelf or "middle" shelf...we wanted Guiness and Magner's Irish Cider since 1/2 of the guests drank either...and definitely a few bottles of Jamesons too(big irish wedding). Our caterers were AWESOME working with us on that and people actually still tell me our wedding was the best they've been to. It wasn't in a high priced place, but it was definitely very nice, but the food and music were great and I think that is what made it.
The other thing we splurged on was the honeymoon - Hawaii
ETA: Oh yeah a great photographer is a must, don't skimp on that, I did and I hate my photos. I haven't even gotten my video yet from the place since I'm too nervous to see how they botched it and I've been married almost 3 years!
(the place itself is very good - we chose them based on referrals and all the stuff we saw was great - just some reason our photographer that day didn't do a great job).
