What do you think? (Sensitive issue, please be nice) LINK FIXED!

This happened out in Iowa, where I lived for a few years. My friend posted it on FB and a few of us did the same. My friend posted it in favor of the security guard. Let's just say the FB discussions have been lively. Chat Icon

People actually complained that they were afraid for their children because she was BFing?! No way! I'm not sure that I believe that...he probably just said it when trying to bully her out of there Chat Icon Unreal. I bf, but I could never do it in public because of my own issues/clumsiness at being discreet - I'll also admit that I get uncomfortable when I see others do it. I know - it makes no sense. That being said, though, it's MY ISSUE and I get up & go elsewhere if I'm uncomfortable. With the state's laws backing her up, it's so beyond wrong what this guy did...

I think it's disgusting that people complained.

She has every right to bf in the play area.

I have more of an issue with the people who complained than the security guard.

Wrong on all levels (besides the woman being upset). She doesn't have to go to the restroom/family area, she doesn't have to cover up....she's feeding her child and can do so where she wishes (as protected by the law!).

Ridiculous but totally not surprising!

That's the thing. She was in a kids area!

If she walked the 15 minutes across the mall to the designated area, she would've had 30 people telling her to shut her kid up.

Re: What do you think? (Sensitive issue, please be nice) LINK FIXED!

I BF, and I do it in public, but with a nursing cover since I am too uncoordinated to do it without one.

I have no problem women nursing in public, but I do believe they should be discreet. There is no reason to have full boob exposure.

So I guess my answer is, if she was being discreet then shame on the security guard and anyone else who complained, but if she had full exposure, I can understand the guard pointing out there was a better place to nurse the baby.

It's very true. Even I get a bit freaked out when a woman doesn't cover at all. When I used to work at a restaurant, a woman fully pulled it out at one of the tables. She was facing the entire dining room. I was flustered. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ridiculous! Some people really have nothing better to do. I wish I had nothing else in the world to worry about than whether or not someone is BFing their child in public Chat Icon Chat Icon.

Re: What do you think? (Sensitive issue, please be nice) LINK FIXED!

Ok, I know I'm gonna get flamed, but whatever.

Personally, it sounds like this woman is on a mission. Her words exactly "the security guard came over and said there is a family restroom you could use". He didn't say she had to leave, he didn't say she had to cover up, etc.

Another reason why I feel this woman is on a "mission" is she said its happened before. She doesn't use covers. I'm not saying she has to. All this to me sounds like she is trying to "prove a point".

Listen, I know its everyone's right to breastfeed anywhere. I worked at Chuck E. Cheese for 8 years and saw many different woman BF. I saw the more discret woman do it in a booth with a cover. But then there would be those that would come up to the register, boob out and about to buy more tokens while there kid is "eating".

I personally am not offended by BF, but I do think there is certain places for BF. As am mom I know you can't time when and where your kids will get hungry. I know a lot of malls have "family restrooms" with couches, etc to make it comfortable for everyone. I just think some women find it there "mission" to BF in public. No covers, anywhere, anytime. Like I said about, the women that would buy food at the register at Chuck E. Cheese while there infant is nibbling. Not the place at the register.

I think it's absolutely RIDICULOUS to give anyone grief over BF'ing public. As long as someone is discretely feeding their child I don't see why anyone would have an issue. Unless a boob smacks you upside the head I can't see why it would bother someone that a mother is feeding her child. People are insane. I would be pi$$sed too if I were that mom that security came over. Ridiculous.

Re: What do you think? (Sensitive issue, please be nice) LINK FIXED!

Also wanted to add-- about the other kids seeing her feeding her baby....my DD has asked me what her nipples are for...I tell her that they're for feeding her baby when she's a mommy....not sure what other people tell their kids who would ask the same question, but DD would totally "get it" because that's what she's taught, KWIM? I'm certainly not teaching her to walk around with her top off while growing up, that boobs out are ok...but her breasts are for feeding a baby when she's a mommy, KWIM?
