What is YOUR family's shopping budget per week

What do you spend per week on groceries? This INCLUDES diapers, wipes, formula, detergents, cleaners, dog food, shampoo's, facial products...basically everything except make up for yourself. Oh yeah and it includes take out, going to restaurants, eating during the day or at work.

We spend between $125-$150 per week. We buy natural or organic products and RARELY do take out or go to restaurants; I plan every meal. Is this excessive, in your opinion? DH and I are trying to curb our spending and he thinks it is high. I think he is NUTS. I really try so hard to be frugal and buy 85% of our stuff stuff at WalMart. NOT eating organic or natural foods is not an option for us.

Opinions or advice? TIA!

ETA: This includes EVERYTHING $645 a month based on 4.3 weeks in an average month. It is me, DH, DD (who is almost 2) and our dog.

It depends how much meat I buy, but generally about $200. That includes snacks for the kids and drinks, detergent. That doesn't include my BJ's bill, but I only go once a month.

EVERYTHING from multiple stores if you added it up. Also includes pet food, paper products, cleaners, etc.

ETA: DH is NUTS right????? Or is he right? We average out to $645 monthly based on a 4.3 week month.
I am very interested in what all of you think.

WOW! You are GOOOD! If I even tallied up how much we spend (and we eat out at least 4 times a week), I think I would vomit!

I go once every two weeks and usually average about 100 each time - i buy from the circular, cut my own chicken (when its on sale for 59 cents a pound) and make my own sauce. i also bring my lunch to work everyday - however...i am not counting how much dh spends on lunch cause i don't want to know - he gets something everydayChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: What is YOUR family's shopping budget per week

Yes, he's nuts! I can't get out of the grocery store for under $120 and that doesn't count dog food, moisturizer/hair products, diapers or big meat purchases. Nevermind eating out - lunches (we try to bring but can't always) and once/week we get pizza, no way can we do less than $200 - 250/week. (I wish we could, and I've tried. And we use coupons and TRY to be cost conscious. OH and we live in VA!!!!)

I'm 125-150 a week, but we only have one child and he's EBF! I can imagine what we'll spend when he really starts eating!

I don't think it's a lot at all. I would estimate I spend on average over $200

Are you kidding?? You're my inspiration!! We eat mostly organic and buy lots of produce and whole grain products. Between our trips to Acme, Whole Foods, Costco and Trader Joe's, we usually end up spending around $1200 a month! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA - mind you, I live in the Philly 'burbs, so that's probably the equivalent of $1500 on LI Chat Icon

Re: What is YOUR family's shopping budget per week

WOW...Im on a tight budget, eat organic as much as possible and its still MORE then that, much more.

Although hard to figure out b/c I buy diapers and wipes on sale and stock up on a lot, so I could go 2-3 months not buying any.

And Im a CVS addict with Extra care bucks and I plan those trips. I rarely pay for shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodarant etc b/c I use coupons and cvs dollars.

But Food...well I shop at Trader Joes about once every 2 weeks give or take...about 1-2 times a moth and I shop at the regular food store weekly.

We also have 3 cats and a dog who eats chicken and potatoes ( not by choice) so that adds up I guess , all that chicken and cat food and litter.

For example....I went to TJ's like a week ago I spent about $70...then yesterday I got some stuff at Target ( mostly food for DH) and it was about $40...and tonight at stop and shop I spent $70 again...

To me thats a LOT.

Re: What is YOUR family's shopping budget per week

I spend around $150 a week in the grocery store alone. Then we probably spend another $50 on takeout and another $200 or so a month in Costco for diapers and other bulk stuff (like paper towels, garbage bags, detergent, etc...)

I spend considerably more than that - I don't know exactly how much (and I don't want to go through the shock of adding it all up.

I think that is a great that you can do that!!Chat Icon

no, I live 5 minutes from Woodbury Commons in Orange county. Our WalMart has tons of organic stuff, so that make it easier and less expensive. BUT I will not buy certain things there, like meats, produce, certain things.

ETA: I only cook what i know we will eat, unless I plan to eat the leftovers for another meal.

Not doing take out is HUGE. It helps my bottom line and my waistline. Chat Icon I take water bottles with me everywhere and I have these "think Organic" fruit and nut bars that I keep in the car to prevent going to the "drive thru" on the days I work.

I do not buy huge items in bulk. I know what we use monthly and I do not have the room to store all of that stuff in my house. I guess that is how I am able to work it out. Chat Icon

ditto! I thought it was just me.

I buy whatever, whenever. I never thought of tallying it up Chat Icon Chat Icon

I dont buy my "stock-up" items on a weekly basis, so thats never in my weekly count.
and it really depends on the week. depending on our schedules, we may eat out, have takeout a couple of times a week...

Im afraid to count it up.

I have no clue. I buy what we need. I never added it up on a weekly or monthly basis.
