You are spending a PERFECT amount. I can't even begin to believe your husband is complaining!

I spend a LOT. Groceries ALONE are about 150 a week. I don't buy diaper wipes or formula or that sort of stuff anymore - but school snacks, juice boxes, half pint waters for school usually gets bought at Costco once a month in ADDITION to that weekly allowance. We rarely eat out - but if you calculate in our once a week pizza, our the times that I have to grab something on the way home because I worked late - you can bump it up another 20 per week. My own stops in the morning or afternoon lunches (which I have STOPPED buying everyday) are currently hovering around 10-15 bucks per week. I don't buy toiletries every week - most stuff (paper goods, toilet paper, etc..) goes on that previously mentioned Costco bill which is usually a good 200-250/month. My own makeup, hair care & moisterizers are only bought sporadically on an as needed basis - but over the course of a year it would probably come out to between 120-150 per month. Rob uses shampoo that costs about 10/month.

Tell your husband that based on the answers you received here - I think you could teach a class on budgeting your household allowance. I will be your first pupil.

ETA: This is a family of 4, including my husband & myself and our 2 sons ages 6 and 4.

We take $300 cash on Saturdays. That is for groceries and our allowances for the week. We usually stick to that. Right now it's just the 3 of us and a cat. We got to Costco about 4 times a year so I am not counting that.
