Re: What kind of home do you have?

We have a Hi-Ranch. I love the open floor plan. Don't love that the main level (2nd level) is everything. So you have to be pretty quiet because the bedrooms are right there. But we have or should I say we will have a Family Room on the lower level when we are done with it, so we will probably spend more time down there. We also really like the style of the house, for some reason we were just attracted to the Hi-Ranch mostly.
Looking to buy?
Same here. We have 3 BR's upstairs, 2 Baths, kitchen, dining room and living room. We have a a family room downstairs and another bedroom. Our laundry room is also downstairs. The only thing i am not happy with is that we don't have another bath or 1/2 bath downstairs. We can always put one in if need be in the future because when our house was being built we asked them to run all of the lines for a bath downstairs for easy installation. Next time we buy we will probably go for a Victorian or a Colonial.

Re: What kind of home do you have?
We have a splanch & I absolutely love it! The main living area is wide open which comes in real handy for holidays & entertaining. I love having our living room on a separate level bc it breaks up the space. All bedrooms are on the top level of the house along with the main bath & master bath. We do have a .5 bath on the main level which is great for parties also. People have no reason to go beyond your living room.
The ony regret that DH has is the fact we only have a 1/4 basement that is basically storage. If we had a full basement, DH would be in his glory. Eventually if needed, our basement could become an office or workout area.

Re: What kind of home do you have?
I have a wideline hi-ranch. Very odd set up, since the lower level is half underground (i.e., no outside entry except to the garage which exits to the front of the house). 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths.
Not in love with my house at all. But we are making it work and will be here some time (we love our neighborhood and surrounding areas).
What I don't like? Small rooms, small kitchen (not eat in!), 3 main bedrooms on main living floor, same as LR and DR (I wish they were on their own floor). Not a ton of storage space because it lacks a true basement. Attic storage is tough to get to.
What I like? 2 car garage. 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, wooded back yard with deck off the house, original hardwood floors, having a bathroom in the master bedroom, having an actual dining room. CAC!!!

Re: What kind of home do you have?
Colonial Duh, edited to add why I like it.
I love the bedrooms upstairs, love the diningroom, love the old charm of it and the porch.
Don't love that there's hardly any closets. That's about all I don't love. I really only like colonials and victorians, so I'm quite happy here.

Re: What kind of home do you have?
Victorian.
I love it. The main floor includes a huge kitchen that opens to a den, living room, dining room, .5 bathroom and a laundry room.
All 4 bedrooms are upstair with 2 more bathroom. I also have a finished basement.
I love everything about my house except the mortgage payment

Re: What kind of home do you have?
Colonial
I love that all 4 bedrooms are upstairs, i love my laundry is upstairs I love the 2 story ceiling. I love my huge walk in closet
I dont like that there is not a full bath on the 1st floor. My thought is god forbid something bad happens and we cant go up the stairs (broken leg) how would we shower, and where would we sleep?

Re: What kind of home do you have?
We have a colonial. I have always liked more traditional, old homes so I was drawn to them. Plus, I wanted all the bedrooms on the same floor and not on the main level.

Re: What kind of home do you have?
We have a Cape.
I love that we have a full basement, and we have 4 BR's.
I don't like that we only have 1 bathroom, and that our dinette and kitchen are small. We plan to dormer and move all the BR's upstairs and open up the downstairs by getting rid of a couple of walls.
ETA: I also like that we have a HUGE backyard.

We have a Levitt Ranch.
I love our location and backyard size. 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
Don't like the smaller rooms, no dining room and it's on a slab.

Re: What kind of home do you have?
We have a colonial.
I love: having a bathroom upstairs & downstairs, all the rooms we have, full basement, that the kitchen is in the front of the house so I can be nosey while cooking/doing dishes, master bedroom has 2 closets.
I don't like the laundry in the basement. My dream would be to have it on the top floor. I don't like that the previous owners converted the garage to a den. We don't really need the extra room and would prefer the garage, so we will probably convert it back.

They call it a colonial but I don't think so. It kind of reminds me more of a cape.

Re: What kind of home do you have?
Ranch - we bought our house for the location and property.
We initially weren't going to view it b/c we were only interested in CH Colonials and Victorians. Our realtor was pushy and insisted we would really love the area. DH reluctantly canceled a hair appt and we viewed the house. We then made an offer in the driveway. :D
What I don't like: I feel our house is on the small side. It's only 1800-2000 sq ft and I would like something over 5000+ (mainly because we have family & guests over often). I wish we had a lot more property so we could own a sprawling ranch.
What I love: The flow and amount of room. We've made a lot of changes over the years with entertaining in mind and it's worked. We can host and never feel cramped...except the kitchen, which is on our "next" list. We do intend to add a 3 car garage and expand the current kitchen into the 2 car garage and then add a master suite above.

Re: What kind of home do you have?
Dutch Colonial
Pluses: Just about everything.
Minuses: The second lower roof & the gutters. Since it's not a traditional style colonia, it is a bit difficult at times when the gutter gets a large pile of snow and the gutter starts to bend, but it's all manageable.

Re: What kind of home do you have?
I have a townhome. The only thing that I've really found about the house that I don't like is that the bedrooms are so small.
Other than that, i HATE that the backyard is on such a slant!

Re: What kind of home do you have?
We have an expanded Levitt ranch.
The good: EIK, nice size living room and formal dining room, entry hall, 4 bedrooms and an office, 2 full baths, oversized property, large master, great price
The bad: no basememt, only a 1 car garage, no central air, boiler in the kitchen (we're too cheap to move it), washer and dryer in the garage (a laundry room would be sooo nice), some annoying slanted ceilings
The ugly: (Hee hee. Just kidding!)
What I would LOVE to have is a center hall colonial or...*drool* a Victorian with a wrap around porch. Some day....

We have an L shaped ranch. I like the layout but overall would like the rooms to be just a bit bigger.

Re: What kind of home do you have?
We have a cape
What i love about it: it has 2 full bathrooms (one up/one down) and a sunroom in the back. I love the flow of the rooms and that it is somewhat Open on the first floor. I love that it has 4 bedrooms. I love that it has a finished basement and a dining room. And i LOVE the location...right near the park, library, a playground, the village shops, parkway and trainstation but STILL very residential and set in...you would never know it was near these things
Dislikes: lack of closets on first floor and even though it was dormered, IMO it was done poorly so it has small bedrooms with small closets

My ideal house would have been a ranch. A large L-shaped one. With a basement.
That's what we have. We closed a little over a month ago and I've only slept there 4 nights so far but I think it's perfect for us right now as a young family. I like that we are all sleeping on one level and I don't have to carry a baby up and down stairs. I also like the open floor plan in the dining, kitchen and living room and that all our utilities are confined to a room in the basement.
Ours isn't L-shaped, but we have a ranch for the same reasons. Our layout seems to be similar too!
