What stores do you miss??
Either because they moved far from your area or because they went under/closed/etc.
I miss The Limited and Esprit.

Seriously, there are NO limiteds near me! Also, I was pretty upset (ok I may have cried) when the LOFT in the bay shore mall closed. I hate driving all the way to babylon.

They were only opened for a year or so after we got married and not long after we bought our house.
I bought so much for other people's houses at Fortunoff's but didn't really get a chance to shop for myself.

ugh the best.....god i miss that place!!! also a boutique in forest hills that used to be there for years LULU'S they had the cutest stuff...now austin street is all chain stores.

Maxx: such cute, original stuff and they had great sales! They closed all their USA stores in the mid 2000s... 
Also, there was a store in mid-90's called Street Wear, one of them was very close to my college downtown. I LOVED their pants! After they went out of business I was inconsolable of months!!

I know which place you mean! Yes, there is nothing left on Austin but chain stores and about a billion medical offices! I swear, based on the amount that opened in Forest Hills in the past 6 months you would think all Forest Hillians are chronically ill!

Pottery Barn!! They took it out of the mall here about 2 years ago. The nearest one is in NJ.
The Limited was another one, but they recently opened one nearby and it's been amazing!!

I used to love LULU'S! I used to think I was so cool, taking the bus to austin st. with my friends before we could drive. Lulu's was our favorite. Then once we got cars we hardly ever went cause no one wanted to look for parking!

Canal Jeans...back in the day, when they had the huge store and the basement was filled with all sorts of overstock and military stuff...ahh, loved shopping there as a teen.

The Postermat...which was a store that sold tons of things - mostly music memorabilia and, well, posters...but they also sold loads of band tee shirts.
I just read that Delia's is going out of business......I worked in their call center years ago!

There is a pottery barn in White Plains ( Westchester.) Although depending where in NJ the other one is, it might not be much closer.
I miss Filene's Basement & Syms! I never have luck at Nordstrom Rack & the Marshall's near me is a disaster!

i know its strange, now theres city med and an urgent care just for kids thats the old movie theater.....the rent is crazy which makes it impossible for neighborhood places to survive......even though they were pricey i loveeeeeeddd austin jeans too... The good old days!

There is one opening up here on LI next fall. It's the first time I ever heard of it; which was about 2 months ago.
Oh and to add: Loved Caldor. They had the best soft pretzels. 
I also used to love Fayva; the shoe store.
