What Style House Do you Like?

Just curious, what would be the style of home you would select, just based upon the style, not the price range?

I would choose a colonial if I had my way, but we will probably wind up with a split since there are so many of them in the town we like. We really aren't being particular about the style of house, though I do have my favorite!

It's funny--I grew up in a ranch, but that is probably my least favorite style architecturally. A raised ranch runs a close second, though I would buy either if the price was right and the home was nice.

Re: What Style House Do you Like?

I like the look of a colonial, split and a wide line high ranch. I also love a tudor...it has so much character. Funny, I wound up with a ranch.

Center hall colonial, tudor or victorian. I love older style homes.

Colonial--and that's what we have. DH prefers center hall colonials...ours is more of a "side hall."

What's a center hall colonial?

Why are there so many colonial variations? Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: NM...found this:

Colonial is a very broad term for classic home styles. Contemporary and Central-Hall Colonials

A colonial home can be described as any house where the second floor living area is 100% of the first floor living area. More specifically it is very symmetrical with a center (or slightly offset) door with windows equally spaced on both sides. The roof ridge runs parallel to the main road. Bedrooms are usually on the second floor. Newer versions are also 2-story with a covered front porch, attached garage, and a family room situated behind the garage. The second floor living area frequently extends over all or part of the garage. Today there are many variations to the Colonial style dwelling: The Garrison Colonial, New England Colonial, Dutch Colonial, Salt Box, Southern, and Modern Colonials are just a few of the various styles.
