What to do with a sick infant who won't eat

DD is 9 months. We went to pm pediatrics last night and they gave her amoxicillin for a slight double ear infection. She last ate 3 oz at 11pm last night and won't eat anything since. She cries every time she coughs. I know she's in pain and the dr didn't help me at all. Said to just keep an eye on her and worst case scenario to syringe it into her mouth which is going to be virtually impossible with this one. I feel so lost. At what point do I get really concerned if she doesn't eat?

Are you giving her anything for pain? I always give either Tylenol or Motrin for the first day or two of an ear infection until the antibiotics really kick in. Hope she feels better soon!

I'd say as long as she has wet diapers and isn't running a high fever, give it a day. Does she eat any table food? Can you offer her ice pops or gatorade? Maybe try to feed her while sitting up more so the pressure isn't on her ears.

Tylenol for pain and pedialyte so she doesn't dehydrate. I wouldn't worry about her not eating... Once the antibiotics kick in she will feel better and eat..

I would make sure the baby is drinking so she does not dehydrate.

When I say not eating I mean not drinking her bottles. She hates solids and that's a whole other issue. Tried the pedialyte and she hates the taste and gagged. I got her to suck on a wet towel and she was sucking water out of it. Also got her to suck on an ice cube in a mesh teether. Otherwise that's all she's had :( So worried

Maybe she would like an ice pop or just a little water if she is eating the ice?

I just went through the same thing with my LO but if the diapers are wet that is a good sign. What if you try the pedialite icepops they might work.

I think I'll try the ice pop. When she does pee it's dark and strong. Diapers aren't really wet at all. Got her to take 3oz at 5:30pm, then 3 at 9 but she immediately threw it up on me. Kept down 3 more at 9;30 then 3 at 11:30. It's a start and at least something, right?
