What type of soap do you have at home?

Since we're on the handwashing topic lately, I was wondering what type of soap people have in the bathroom.

We use the pump soap almost exclusively. DS got annoyed with me one day because the pump ran out, and I told him to use the bar soap.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have a bottle of soft soap in the bathroom, that I refill with the generic target brand.

Dove or body wash in the shower

Palmolive in the kitchen.

whats the big deal with anti-bacterial lately? As long as you are not excessive in using it and as long as you dont expect it to magically protect you from illness - what is the harm? and the ones from B&BW smell soooo puurrrttyyy!!

I get it because I like the pretty colors and yummy scents of the bath and bodyworks soaps. They don't come in NON- antibacterial.
I'm not looking to do surgery after washing my hands or anything- I just like the soap and it happens to be anti-bacterial.

We use the good-smelling anti-bacterial ones from Bath & Body Works. They smell so nice!

I buy them for the smell, not because they are anti-bacterial Chat Icon

I only use it because I can't find non-antibacterial, not moisturizing in the large pump refill size!

I only recently found it in the small pumps, and I may buy it, even though it is a waste of plastic.

The anti-bacterial is too rough on my skin, but I don't like the moisutrizing kinds because I feel like it leaves a residue .

I am always on the lookout. I used to use Ivory & can't find it any more.

I hate bar soap.

If anyone can reccomnend an non-actibacterial pump soap, please do!

You know what is great? Dove hand soap.
Doesn't dry out your skin and it comes in 3 formulas- so if you don't want the heavy moisturizing residue you can buy the cool moisture one (green bottle) and it smells great!

Thanks! I usally stay away from any moisturing, so I don't get the residue in my contacts, but I'll look for that one.

Re: What type of soap do you have at home?

I use pump soap, but sometimes it's the foaming soap and sometimes just a basic one. I like the Method soaps a lot. I am also guilty of sometimes buying the anti-bacterial ones, especially for the kitchen after touching raw meat and things like that.

Re: What type of soap do you have at home?

Many experts believe that eventually the practice of using antibacterial soaps is likely to have a devastating effect on human health.

The problem is that the more the bacteria are exposed to the stuff (triclosan, or whatever the chemical is that makes it "antibacterial"), the more likely they are to build up mutations to make themselves immune to its effects.

It's the same process by which so many bugs have become resistant to antibiotics. Bacterial infections that are resistant to antibiotics are really, really scary and can be fatal.

The beauty of it is, soap IS antibacterial all by itself, by its very nature. It doesn't need any "antibacterial" chemical additives. "Antibacterial soap" is simply a marketing ploy.

Sorry to rant, but this is something I feel pretty strongly about. (Obviously. Chat Icon )
