We use the good-smelling anti-bacterial ones from Bath & Body Works. They smell so nice!

I buy them for the smell, not because they are anti-bacterial Chat Icon

Same for me. If they had the same scents in Non anti-bacterial, I would get that.

Re: What type of soap do you have at home?

Wow, making me think about this made me realize I have a lot of soap around. In my bathroom and my half bath I have two pumps at the sink. One is a bath and body works antibacterial and the other is a mosturizing non antibacterial. In the kitchen I have an antibacterial refillable soap and in the shower I have a Dove exfoliating bar soap.

Many experts believe that eventually the practice of using antibacterial soaps is likely to have a devastating effect on human health.

The problem is that the more the bacteria are exposed to the stuff (triclosan, or whatever the chemical is that makes it "antibacterial"), the more likely they are to build up mutations to make themselves immune to its effects.

It's the same process by which so many bugs have become resistant to antibiotics. Bacterial infections that are resistant to antibiotics are really, really scary and can be fatal.

The beauty of it is, soap IS antibacterial all by itself, by its very nature. It doesn't need any "antibacterial" chemical additives. "Antibacterial soap" is simply a marketing ploy.

Sorry to rant, but this is something I feel pretty strongly about. (Obviously. Chat Icon )

Thanks for the info!

Also, antibacterial soap doesn't remove any more bacteria from your hands than washing with regular soap and water. The difference is that antibacterial soap selectively kills bacteria, leaving only stronger and more resistant bacteria behind. Additionally, antibacterial soap exposes bacteria to chemicals to which the bacteria can eventually adapt to be resistent.

Re: What type of soap do you have at home?

In the kitchen I use pump soap - regular with shea butter. In the bathrooms we use bar soaps. I use regular soap. I think antibacterial soap is really bad because it makes things more antibiotic resistant.

Regular pump. Another problem with anti-bac. is that I just have no idea what environmental effects if poses. Turtles with two heads, newts with 3 eyes...could be the soap!
