What will your parenting style be?
I was watching the news this evening and there was a segment on RIE (forgot what it stands for) which is a kind of parenting style.
It got me thinking about what kind of parent I think DH and I will be. I haven't really read up on any of the parenting philosophies. I think it is just going to be a go with out gut thing, since we don't know what we are doing as this is our first. However, I would like to think that I am going to be a pretty laid back mom. Like letting her cry and letting her get dirty and stuff. But who knows what I will actually be like once she is here.
So, what do you think your parenting style will be?

I agree with you. I am a pretty laid back person, so I think I'll be a pretty laid back person. DH is a worrier, but hopefully he won't turn into a freak out type of parent. He is laid back too, though, when he isn't worrying lol
But idk. I feel like I should be reading up on parenting styles and figuring this all out before the baby is born!

Re: What will your parenting style be?
I think I will be laid back as far as letting him/her cry and not picking him/her up everytime she/he wants to be picked up, I don't believe in over spoiling, you pay for it later on. But I will also be very hands on, I love to play and get down to the level of a child and do kid things. So i will be stern but fun, I hope LOL
DH is a worrier so I think he will bubble wrap the baby and give it whatever it wants.

Re: What will your parenting style be?
I will definitly be the disciplinarian between the two of us. But other than that, I guess we'll see how it goes!
As for parnting "styles" and reading books, no offense to anyone else, but I think it's a load of crap. People raised kids for years without those books and differing philosophies. Sometimes I wonder if we are better or worse off with all this information out there. I like the idea of just figuring out my own chil and doin the best job I can.

Exactly.
Every situation is different with kids, and every child is different. One way of Parenting with one sibling, may not work with the other child. Just do the best that you can and you'll be just fine.

Re: What will your parenting style be?
I watched that segment on REI too (NOT my thing) I loved parts of it but found it not for me overall. I think that in so many things I will be laid back but def like the style of setting a schedule (books like happiest baby on the block, babywise) etc for feeding, waketime, naptime etc when kids are young but also being flexible.
I don't think the stuff from attachment parenting is for me (again I like PARTS of it) but that on-demand feeding, constant holding etc seems to develop dependence I'm not comfortable with - though I don't knock it for folks who like it- I have friends who LOVE it..
I think overall I want to establish order and rules but alllow for exceptions, fun, mistakes, and growth for ALL of us. . most important to me is having LOTS of love for our LO and consistency btwn me and DH!!

Re: What will your parenting style be?
I am going to parent just like my parents did. I grew up in a very loving but strict home. I could go to my parents for anything and could tell em anything but I also knew there were consequences for my actions.
It is very hard to be a parent in this world we live in. I am a teacher and I see how kids are and it's a little scary. Parents need to be more involved than ever and need to set rules and consequences for behaviors.

Re: What will your parenting style be?
I'm also a teacher and pretty laid back, but I do like the idea of a schedule. I remember my sister (I was 12 when she was born) was a terror as a baby. My mom was a SAHM and never got her on a schedule. She had to be with my mom 24/7. My mom had to miss major holidays because of her. My bff used Babywise with her daughter and she easily took to a schedule, which allowed her to return to work.
