I was assuming it was easily in the $200K range, but looked it up. She made $248,401.
SeeThroughNY.net gives you their salaries. As public employees, salaries are public information. My understanding is the salaries are not the bulk of the cost. It's the pensions & benefits (which can be found if you were to read the contracts)

alot of the salaries reported included benefits, its not their take home pay.
plus, most, if not all, have doctoral degrees. I would assume a fair salary would be $200K - it is a very stressful, demanding job

if that's the case with the benefits, I definitely agree

Compare LI to the city schools- and if you think that your supts. etc, get a lot- you may feel differently if you saw up close how much better things are for the kids in LI schools. I teach in the city and the mayor is getting ready to hand the leadership over to someone from the magazine industry. At least district superintendents more often than not worked their way up the system and truly understand education, unlike the person we're about to get, who will be coming in with LESS education than a teacher is required to get, and no background at all!

They break it down into benefits and then salary. The breakdown is public info as well
Here is an example: James A. Feltman Commack Superintendent (now retired) $657,970 2006-2007 $249,905* $8,500 car allowance, plus gas and expenses $500,000 in life insurance $33,000 a year paid to a 403(b) account $9,000 each year for professional conferences Medical, excess medical, dental, optical and disability insurance Survivors benefits Option of doing consulting work

Even though they're public employees It seems like an invasion of privacy.
But looking at some of these salaries makes me think I should've been a teacher! I also have a very demanding job and guess what...I don't have summers and every holiday off. And def. don't have the same benefits
ETA b/c this is not meant for any teachers to take offense. I am truely grateful for the amazing teachers out there but smh to the ones that are always complianing about their job.

I am a LI teacher and I deserve what I make. I work extremely hard and take home hours of work each night. I also have numerous planning hours every weekend. I have over 115 students that I teach and am responsible for each and every day. I need to contact their parents if they dont do their homework or do poorly on a test. From September to June I cannot read a book for pleasure because I do not have the time. So I deserve my salary. Maybe you should become a teacher and see how difficult it really is, because many people try it and dont make it past their first year. My first year I cried every day.

Trust me when I tell you that the NYC DOE is one of the biggest bureaucracies around. I agree that the person at the helm should have experience in education, but quite frankly, they should have equal experience in business management. It is not always about "teaching" at the DOE. In some respects it HAS to be run like a business.
Not for nothing, but how much of a background in politics did Bloomberg have when he ran for Mayor? And he keeps getting re-elected so people DO like him. He was a business man and though I am not currently a city resident (I was when he was elected), he seems to be doing a pretty darn good job.
Sorry for the digression, but not everything is so cut and dry.
As far as superintendents' salaries go, it doesn't bother me one bit. The one in my home district makes over 300k. Good for them.

fyi, not starting drama but teachers pay a LOT of money getting their bach degrees, then mandatory mast. degrees, then any other schooling in order to earn these salaries. we spend a lot of time working and going to school at the same time and continue professional development yearly. teaching is lot more work than people think it is, and has certainly become a lot more rigid in the past few years. i love it and wouldnt trade it, but i definitely earn my pay

Sure, I think you should. It is soooooo easy
I can't understand why it is okay to list teacher's salaries publicy. I am a NYC teacher and do not make close to the numbers you see online at that site, but this is so unfair.
What an invasion of privacy. and I'm sorry when did fixing computers become more important than educating children.

I also want to add that teachers are required to have a Masters and maintain professional development. I have 2 masters and 60 credits beyond that, all of which I worked very hard to earn.
Being a teacher is a challenging job not everyone can do, why shouldn't they be rewarded financially?

woah...calm urself. for realz. i'm not saying it more important, but one would think and IT professional would make more than a teacher. he does more than just "fix" computers, btw.
im not saying teaching is an easy job. i know its not. a lot of my friends are teachers. but to see some of the salaries, its really a LOT of money.
