cheap wines that taste greeat- aka best values
especially in the north fork where any decent wine is very overpriced
i have to say...
IMO wine on the north fork IMO isn't really over priced
at least not yet..
but it will be soon
with all this popularity it has gain in the past few years...
there are more and more wines that are coming out with highER prices..
but in the grand scheme of thing...i can't say they are "over" priced
MAX you spend a good 30-35 on a good wine
I thought that LI wine prices have actually come down a bit over the years... When I compare the small bottles to the prices, I think some LI wines are a little $$...jmo what always bugs me is that the LI wines don't come in a nice 1.5L bottle size

I am kind of embarrased to say this but what about wine selection for dummies- or wine 101---
I love a glass of wine here and there but never know what to look for when selecting. I always have to ask the people who work @ the liquor store or restaurant to help me pck something good.
I like this idea too!

Re: What would you want to read about? (wine related)
who is the target audience of the magazine??
If it is people who are avid wine drinkers, I like some of the ideas that you already have-- A couple of others:
- Reviews of local restuarants with great wine lists, wine events, or tasting menus with wine pairings
- A series of reviews of types of wines-- all at different price points, i.e. Cab for $10, $20, $30+
- Local wine adventures-- things you can do locally with a glass of wine, i.e. picnic in central park, movies in Bryant Park, etc.
If it is people who may not know what kind of wine to buy, and they may be overwhelmed by decisions-- anything that makes wine more friendly.
- quizes to see what your overall tastes are with reccos as to what wines you might like
- Dinner party advice-- throwing a dinner party and what types of wines you should have in your arsenal to please every party guest-- from the white zin drinker (oh no!) to the connossieur (sp?).
Just some ideas off the top of my head.

well i was reading an article about a month or so ago which said to prepare for the more select LI wines to start raising in price...
IMO 30 for a decent bottle is pretty good...

I disagree.
You can get a ridiculous French Bordeaux or an awesome California cab for $15 and under.
If you get anything of a comparable caliber on LI, you are paying $25 and up.
I don't know one wine on LI for $25 or less that can compare to the less expensive wine that I have mentioned.
I realize LI vintners deal with less acreage, climate issues and sometimes more laborious winemaking procedures, but nonetheless, not many wines on LI have WOWed me, and I can honestly say that I spend a lot of time out there and have tried many, many wines. Even wines from the small, obscure vineyards.
Therefore I really believe that LI wines are over priced.

Re: What would you want to read about? (wine related)
I was just at a wine tasting this past weekend and one thing everyone liked was when the guy brought over 4 different corks and asked us to tell him which one of those wines were stored properly. And then told us how to store wine and when they go bad, etc.

Re: What would you want to read about? (wine related)
I agree with Randella. Base your article on the target audience of the magazine. If your audience consists mainly of more experienced wine connoisseurs, you don't want to bore them with a "wine for dummies" or "wine tasting 101" type article. I would go for the Wine Trends article. Of course if the magazine has a much wider audience, then yes, I think a do's and don'ts of wine tasting is a great idea.
What you definitely should do - is write these wine articles for LIF - I would love to read them on here!

Re: What would you want to read about? (wine related)
I'd love a wine for dummies article. I hate picking up a hobby magazine and being completely lost.
Also, food pairing. I never know which wine goes with what food, except the old standby of red with meat, white for fish and poultry. I didn't realize how big a deal it could be until it was done for me, and it really makes the meal "pop".
