What would your ideal size home be

How many square feet do you see as ideal? Not taking into account price, location etc at what point would you say this size is perfect.. Just curious because I know for me myself I just don't want a big house. My house now is small, 1300 SF... but I would say that my ideal hosue wouldn't be more than 1800-2000 SF I much prefer the feeling of a cozy house. I'm just curious as to how much I am in the minority

Re: What would your ideal size home be

Funny I was just having this conversation with my hubby because we looked at a HUGE house, and he fell in love. I just felt it was ridiculously big for the two of us.

I would like 2000-2200 square feet. I also like a cozy feel, open spaces, but not where you feel like you can get lost in the house.

My house is 1900 square feet and fits us just fine. We raised two children here and never felt that we didn't have enough room.

My house is pretty big (a little over 4000 square feet) but it is very old so it doesnt seem that large. The ceilings arent very high like newer homes so it still has a warm cozy feel to it. I dont think that i would mind living in a smaller house, but I kind of like having so much room to spread out, and knowing that we can comfortably fit a few kids without having to move!

Re: What would your ideal size home be

My ideal would be a little over 2,000 sq feet. Not too big, not too small.

My house is perfect for the 2 of us right now + 1 baby.... after that we will finish the upstairs. I have no idea what our square footage is but I can't imagine cleaning anything biggger or what my electric bill would be! Chat Icon

Re: What would your ideal size home be

our house is 2400 and i would say that i wouldn't mind it being a little bigger. It has 4 bedrooms, which we plan on filling one dayChat Icon , but i wouldn't mind having our living room bigger than it is. Oh and maybe enough room for a walk in closet too! Chat Icon

Our house is 1850 sq. ft. With 2 kids and not a lot of storage (we have a hi-ranch), I would love to have a house about 3500 sq. ft. I can dream, right?

Re: What would your ideal size home be

My brother's house is bet. 2500-3000 sq ft. I think that's a pretty good "cozy" size.

My sister's is over 7000 sq. ft. It's definitely too big for me, but she has 3 kids and one on the way, so it's perfect for her.

Mine is in the middle. Way too big for DH and me, but it would be perfect if we had a kid (or two or three...a girl can dream! Chat Icon Chat Icon ).

I agree with that. DH and I looked at a few houses in NC that were 2200 sq feet and thought it was a great size! we also looked at 3000+ sq foot homes and thought they would be even better though Chat Icon

Re: What would your ideal size home be

When we were house-hunting, we wouldn't see anything less than 2,000....we wound up with a 3,000 sq. foot house....

Re: What would your ideal size home be

DH and I have 2200 square feet and we feel likes its barely enough. we're going to finish our attic and make it an office/ playroom to make more room. Once thats done it will be nice. I'd say 4000 would be awesome once we have a few kids running around...and a cleaning lady.

Im not sure how many sq feet our house is, Im guessing about 2000 sq feet. Ideally Id love a home about 4000sq feet. I dont want a gigantic house but something big enough for a nice spacious layout and room for kids and entertaining.

Re: What would your ideal size home be

I thinkg the house that we are buying is almost 2000 sq ft including the basement which isnt finished yet. I think size wise its great. I would mind adding a second story and bringing it to 3k sq ft one day.

When we were looking in NC we were saying at least 3000sq until we saw the 3500 sq ft house with the extra 1100 sq on the third floor. That was awesome!

ours is a little less than 3000 & the rooms aren't huge. It seems the house is packed between us & the two kids, but its a PITA cleaning this house the size it is....honestly I wouldn't want it bigger for that reason alone.
