Whats the Most Expensive Restaurant you've Eaten at?

So where was the most expensive restaurant you've ever eaten at, and did the experience/food really impress you?

Could be anywhere in the world, not just NYC (ie by expensive I mean high brow places in Manhattan like Peter Lugers, Lutece back in the day, Daniel Bouloud)...

My family thinks a steak is a steak no matter where you go whether its Outback or Peter Lugers, but of course, there are different opinions..where do you fall ? what has been your experience? Would you go back and have another meal at that restaurant? Why or why not?

I should add that DH and I eat at fairly expensive restaurants every few months.

I have yet to have an experience similar to what we had at Megu.

The name escapes me, but a restaurant in Lake Como Italy. I nearly fainted when I got the credit card bill but hands down the best meal I ever had and it was worth every euro.

We ate at Blue Hill. It was a downright orgasmic experience for a foodie like me. We went to the Stone Barns location in Tarrytown, but their swanky original location is in Manhattan.

We also ate at Spago in Maui on our honeymoon, and I thought that was really great but also a huge rip-off.

Gari in NYC (they have a few locations, but we went to the one in the theater district) was pricey but really a transcendent sushi experience.

We went to Prime for a work function. I ordered wrong - ordered shrimp, not steak. I think i would have liked the steak much better. I'm glad I didn't have to pick up the check.

I can't see spending $100 pp on dinner - that's just me not or If someone wants to prove me wrong on their dime - let me know.

I think it was Ruth Chris. I'm not sure if it was the most expensive restaurant I've been to (I was on a date and can't remember the total) but I know it was the night I had my most expensive drink. That Louis XIII cognac

These are all great restaurants, some I had never heard of...I agree with a PP who set a limit of no more than $100/pp for a meal..

DH and I don't eat out at expensive restaurants, but one of my friends does (he has a great job so he's lucky he can afford it)..but I think its ok as long as its for a special occassion..I think the most expensve meal I ever ate was in Paris when I was studying abroad - my bf took me to some chi-chi restaurant near the Champs-Elysees and blew several hundred dollars on steak, foie gras and other entrees I can't even remember now..I didnt like much of the food either (steak was practically raw and I dont care much for caviar...

I cant fathom getting a bill for $ 400+ for just 1 meal for 2 people..I think I would and think of how that $400 could have gone toward an iPad 2 or something..but thats just me...!

DH and I have eaten at a lot of places. It's one of the things we love to do together, especially on vacation.

We went to one place in Sydney and one place in Beaune, France. The first one was better and slightly cheaper. It was definitely worth the money. The second was interesting, but it wasn't worth the 300 Euro.

Blue Hill Stone Barns- $250 per couple and I walked out of there starving...so not worth it IMO.

Il Mulino in San Juan...very pricey but awesome.

Probably Villa Mahana in Bora Bora - worth every penny! One of the most memorable meals EVER

Other top ones:

Coliccio and Sons - awesome food. It was really a great experience overall and the little touches made it especially delicious! (Like the hot rolls in the mini cast iron dish!)

Bertrand at Mister A's - in San Diego, actually recommended to me by someone from LIF! AMAZING food. The food was so fresh, simple and delicious.

We love Uncle Jack's in Bayside too which is usually at least $100/pp so I guess that's pretty expensive! Nobu we have tried also which is expensive, but has great food... not somewhere we'd really choose to go for an occasion though.

Wolfgang Puck in Hawaii- worth every penny
Pluckamin Inn (NJ) - worth every penny
Citronelle (DC) - ok
Taberna Al Albadero (DC) - fantastic
Morton's Steak House (NY and DC) - both great
1789 (DC) - Fantastic
Petrosian (NY) - Excellent
The Palm (NY and DC) -Excellent

Restaurant at the MoMa...awesome insane tasting menu.

Aerole in Vegas also awesome insane tasting menu with swans next to us (We had a hookup for this)

A cple places in Italy..worth it also.

Craftsteak (Tom Colicchio's restaurant at Foxwoods) - i'd give it an 8/10.

A restaurant in Dublin and a restaurant in Rome were ridiculously expensive (and both very good), but i can't recall the names. I am drawing a blank on others around here at the moment.

Victoria & Albert's chef table at The Grand Floridian at Disney ... excellent and we've done it more than once.

Eleven Madison Park. I brought my sister there for her 30th birthday. It was really good, but $500 is seriously way too much money to spend on dinner for two people. So no, it wasn't worth the money, but it was definitely significantly better than any other food I've ever eaten.

replied on the other thread: we went to Morimoto in the meatpacking district and spend almost $400 on two tasting menus. It was worth every penny! An amazing gastronomical experience!

I live in NYC and DH and I are big on eating out so we've definitely been to a lot of great places. Daniel and Gotham are amazing and probably are my favorites. Also love Nobu, Masa and Blue Hill, and there are some really amazing places in Napa area (loved Redd, one of the best meals I've ever had). For steak love Capital Grille and Smith and Wollensky. We went to Telepan last weekend and it was excellent as well. Still looking to try Per Se (have to convince DH it's worth the $$) and Eleven Madison Park...

Daniel - thought it was totally overrated and not worth the money.

Le Cirque - thought it was awesome

Daniel Boulud - one of the best meals I have ever had.

Nobu - Delish every time

Aeroule(?) - overrated

DH and I ate at Cyrus in Napa/Sonoma Valley in California for our anniversary a few years ago. It was a pretty expensive restaurant and everything we ordered was amazing!

We've also gone to Il Mulino in Roslyn (we weren't paying) and that was worth every penny! I would kill for the champagne truffle ravioli I ate there.
