What's the youngest you would take a child on a "real" vacation?
not visiting family or friends....but a real vacation, like to a resort?
Alysons' great grandma would love to go on vacation with her, or both babies, but I don't know how young is TOO young

Depends on temperment. Some kids are very adaptable and easy going, so you can take them anywhere and expect that they will still sleep and be pleasant. Others (like my sweet darling) thrive on structured routine and would not be so much fun to travel with for a while!

I don't think we'll be taking Jared anywhere (like Disney) until he's 3 or 4.

Re: What's the youngest you would take a child on a "real" vacation?
we took brendan on a cruise with us when he was 6 months. i would probably take a younger infant, but probably would wait until they were sleeping through the night. i don't want to be up through the night when i'm on vacation!

no, as a family...all of us. Grandma will be 80 in February and I know she wants to do something special with our babies.
Heck...she took me and my sister to Disney when I was 11

For us it really calmed down when they were 6 - 7 months. If there was only one baby we could have gone earlier.

We are taking DD this summer at 7 months. We always thought, before we had her, that we would wait until she was at least 2. But an opportunity came up when both of our families will be going, so we though it was a good time.

We took Nick to Palm Beach at 10 weeks old, and alec to the Jersey Shore at 11 weeks old. That was hairy... a 20 month old and an 11 week old...

aww how sweet of her. I guess it depends on the situation but I'm sure if you go some where when it's not too hot it will be fine when ever.

Re: What's the youngest you would take a child on a "real" vacation?
We are going to Florida for DH's family reunion in July and DS will be 3 months old and then we are taking a cruise with 23 of my family members on New Year's and he will be 8 months old.
Hopefully it will go well....and I just realized apparently we only go places in large groups

Re: What's the youngest you would take a child on a "real" vacation?
My opinion - assuming resort vacation - 7 months old. We took Kevin at 5 mo for a long weekend driving trip but a week and flying for me would be more like 6-8 mo before I would be comfy.

Re: What's the youngest you would take a child on a "real" vacation?
I think 6 months plus just makes it easier and more convenient for you. Out of country, I might wait just a bit longer for shots. Took son at 10 months on a cruise and it was amazing! We flew to Florida to visit in-laws at 5 months and all was good.

Re: What's the youngest you would take a child on a "real" vacation?
we went to Arizona to a resort when he was little under 1 year. he slept the entire plane ride and was very good. We had a great time although not as relaxing of a time but that is expected. we plan on going on a cruise with him soon when he is about 2 they have a camp for him there so we can have some adult time.
