When can you turn carseat around to face forward?
Is it one or two years old in addition to the weight requirement? DH wants to do it (DS is 15 months), but I thought I remember one of the nurses at his pediatrician saying the recommended age is now 2??

Re: When can you turn carseat around to face forward?
I think law is one year but its recommended not until 2 or as long as you possibly can stand it.
I got AJ a convertible seat and its big enough that she has plenty of space still. I know she's always been 75% or above on height. She's now 14mo old and I still keep her rear facing. Figure its not hurting anyone and she's safer so why not.

Re: When can you turn carseat around to face forward?
I am keeping them rear facing as long as possible. I am even letting my DVD player gather dust-haven't turned it on since we bought the car ) Rear facing protects their necks much better in an accident

Re: When can you turn carseat around to face forward?
Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm going to wait it out, but since DS is on the taller side, we might end up turning him sooner than 2 years.

Re: When can you turn carseat around to face forward?
My pediatrician told me about studies from Europe that recommend 3-4 years...we waited until DD#1 was 2 because she didn't meet the requirements until just before that age...with DD#2, I will try to wait until she is about 18 months at least.

Re: When can you turn carseat around to face forward?
The longer they are rear-facing, the safer it is for them. However, keep in mind the car seat's limits. If your DC is heavier than the car is designed for, rear-facing, you'll need to turn the seat around. Rear-facing is only safe if the seat can handle it.
The age of DC is the important number. The weight isn't as important. You want DC's neck to be as mature and strong as possible before turning them around. If DC's neck isn't strong enough, they'll get whiplash or worse, even in a minor collision, regardless of how heavy they are.

Very true
Here are the weight, height limits for Britax roundabout Our Britax Marathons are good rear facing up to 33 lbs. My kids are 23 and 25 lbs right now at 11 months. But I assume they don't gain as much from 1-2 as before 1

Re: When can you turn carseat around to face forward?
My DD is 24lbs and 13 1/2 months old and we haven't turned her around yet however, we will probably be doing sometime fairly soon. She's so tall that her little legs are all crumpled up. There is NO way in the world she would last until she is 2 years old.
I know why they recommend leaving them rear facing as long as possible but I look at all my friends whose children are 2 and there is no way under the sun they could have stayed rear facing that long. They are too tall!! Maybe if you have a really short kid otherwise age 2 doesn't seem practical!!
