When di you decide to start using a big kid bed?

DS will be 2.5 soon, he threatens to climb out of the crib (you know, puts one leg up on the rail and looks to you to see how you react ). When did you switch to a big kid bed?

DS was 19 months. I was pregnant with the 2nd and wanted to use the crib again. The ped recommended moving him into a bed as soon as possible b/c he said he wouldn't want he to associate losing his crib to the baby.

DS was getting out of the crib before that and was making me nervous so I was happy the ped recommended it to get my husband on board.

I am expecting #2 and originally was considering using DS' crib for the new baby. But at almost 2, he's not ready for a bed (he still jumps a lot in the crib, cries sometimes when we put him down for the night bc he still wants to play, asks to get out when he should really be laying down, etc etc etc).

So we are getting a new crib for the baby and leaving DS in his crib until we think he's more ready. I'm guessing around age 3 unless he shows signs sooner.
