when did you start getting your baby on a daily schedule?
with naps at specific times, feeding times, etc.
I feel like it depends on Sasha's mood what she wants to do that day. I just came from a new mom's group and it seems like everyone has this schedule already with their babies-- naps in cribs, nighttime routines, early bedtimes, etc.
Sasha eats when she wants to eat, and sleeps when and where she feels like it-- except at night when we put her in the crib and she goes to sleep pretty easily and sleeps for the night.

I had the same questions Randi! Basically its trial and error-do what you feel is right. I did notice my kids take better naps in their cribs. As they get older they get more distracted when in the swing, in front of the TV etc.
I still follow their cues but now they seem to do the same thing every day. Try doing a nap in the crib when she shows tired cues. Ronan gets super cranky when he needs a nap and Declan gets glassy eyed and is not as interactivew-Sash will have her own and maybe you know them already

bump...
anyone have any suggestions on how to start?
Should I begin recording naps, etc.. in addition to feeding and pooping, to try to figure out patterns?

THey go to sleep at the same time every day (bedtime routine starts at 7), but they eat and nap during they day whenever they want.

you could do this....occassionally when Jack would change things up on me I would write down a few days exactly when he napped and ate.
I believe that by 4 months he was in his crib sleeping by 8pm - and going until about 5am. Then within the next month or so that 8pm bedtime was moved up to 6:30.
It def. is trial and error. I would start putting her to nap in her crib now though - they usually do sleep better and will go for longer stretches at a time. Jack napped anywhere until about 6 months and then it was torture to put him in his crib. With #2 I will def. put them in their crib for naps by three months.

see if you can start to find a pattern and plan your day according to it. If you find she eats every 3-1/2 hours then try to plan the nap/playtime around that. It's all trial and error, but eventually you will find there is a method to the madness and a routine will follow.

Re: when did you start getting your baby on a daily schedule?
Samantha actually put herself on a schedule. It's really not the same day by day, but her bedtime typically stays the same. Although I want her to stay up a little later and have her last bottle later, so we are trying that tonight.
She will nap in her swing, but not for very long and she actually prefers napping in her crib. She gets cranky when she is tired which is typically about 30 minutes or so after she finishes a bottle during the day. I she naps whenever during the day, but like I said, her bedtime routine is pretty much the same - bath around 6:00-6:30, bottle, then bed. She will usually sleep until 2am-ish, but once in a while will go until 5:30, which is why I am trying to get her to have her last bottle around the 10-11:00 hour.

Re: when did you start getting your baby on a daily schedule?
I could have wrote this myself! is almost 6 weeks old and I feel like we have no schedule at all! I feel like a horrible mom b/c I feel like everybody knows their kids and I don't! We go out a lot, so he sleeps while we're out, so it's inconsistent, plus I'm going back to work next week, so I don't know how to get into a routine before then... I hope it all works out for you!

he started his own schedule. I thought he would be more accomodating if it was his schedule that he set for himself. He started around 2 months or so.

Re: when did you start getting your baby on a daily schedule?
at first i went with whatever my dd did- i used the ITZBEEN timer too- then i just adjusted things slowly to fit our needs. I am not very strict that naps are at 2pm or something, but i expect her to nap between 12pm and 2pm and i expect her second nap to start by 530 and end by 7. No naps after 7 pm.. She eats every 3-4 hours .
Just listen to the baby then adjust a schedule around the baby and then move the times slowly until it fits your needs.

Re: when did you start getting your baby on a daily schedule?
I guess I would call our schedule more of a rough routine in the sense that:
- He eats 6oz every 3-4 hours. - He is just about up for two, down for two, give or take a half hour or so. - His up time consists of: - Bottle - Digestion time - Diaper change, where he becomes VERY alert, active and happy. We spend a lot of time on his changing table, talking -Activity time - play mat, reading, tours of the house, etc. By then he is tired and ready for the next nap and sleeps until the next bottle where the pattern repeats itself until bedtime which can be anywhere from 9-11pm!
Because the feeds are every 3-4 hours, the time all of the things above take place are not exact.
We do go out a lot, but I go out around his feedings, and his naps then take place in the car or stroller instead of somewhere in the house. He will not nap in his crib since I don't swaddle him during the day. Need to work on that one... Anyway, I conside this a schedule. He is 11.5 weeks old.
