When do most people have Christenings after the baby is born?
What is the typical timeframe that most people have christenings after a baby is born? Earliest to latest you have heard?

I would say that 3 months is the average. Next time I am waiting about 6 months...just due to the weather and the holidays.

I think most people strive for 2-6 months. When I was born I was baptized about 3 weeks after birth.
For me I'm going to try for March-April

I had my dedication ceremony for my daughter at 3 months.. I'll try to do the same this time, but it'll be harder, being new to the area and first having to find a church home..

For baby #1 we had the Christening about 2 1/2 months later.
For baby #2 we will wait till almost 4 months, so we can do it in the summer with an outside party.

Ideally I would like to do it asap, as my family is pretty old school and feels it should be done as early as possible. But because we will probably want to have the party at our house, we are going to wait til the spring (April/May) and  is due in November. We may have him christened in the church in December/January and then just have the party later.

If you do it at 2 mths, are germs or vaccines a concern? Thanks for the replies. I see it can vary.

I had my DS's at 2.5 months. My nephew's was at 9 months and my cousin's having his son's today and he is 10 months.

My Ds's was in December so of course I was worried about the flu. I held him for most of the christening party when he was not sleeping. My brother , cousin, his godparents, and his grandparents held him for very little. A few days after the christening my DH had the flu and thank goodness my DS never caught it.
The way I look at it is that the flu is something you have to worry about the whole winter and you worry about germs and sickness what ever time of year your child is born. Right now people are worrying about coxsackie. I mean I did not keep my DS in the house all winter so whether it was his christening or going to a store there is always threat of sickness. The family members that held my DS would have held him even if we did not have a christening party. I just tried my best to make sure I primarily took care of him and washed my hands like crazy.

DD # 1 at 7 1/2 weeks
DD # 2 at 4 weeks
DD .#3 at 6 1/2 weeks
There was no real reason for me to wait so I did it right away.

I have heard as earlly as 6 weeks to as late as a yr I think my DD will be about 7-8 months I am thinking either May or July it just has to be after we get our tax return LOL

We don't plan on having the Christening for  until the spring and the baby will be 9-10 months. I have been to two in the last year where one baby was a year and the other was 10 months.

We had our DD baptised at 7 months old. We had a lot going on and didn't want to take her out during the winter months.

Thanks! It's good to know. Ideally I would want to do it within 3 mths, before the 2nd week of March. But I am just thinking a bit ahead about what to do, being we are due in Dec and the issue with the winter, flu, vaccines, etc...would you let this stop you?

DS was born Nov and we hadthe bapstism in April. We will do the same for this baby. I didnt want to have it in the middle of the winter.
