I will personally be protesting if schools are not resuming in person in the fall and I do hope others would be joining me.

Did anyone see cuomos conference today? He claimed distance learning was going great and he wants to drastically change education for the long term due to this. Terrifying.
He said that and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and reading on the screen.
Yes the positive would be equal learning for all no matter what district you live in. He said why would you have 1 teacher teach 30 kids if they could do much more electronically (or something. Of that nature). My mouth was hanging open in shock. What will this do to teachers today? How do they expect this to work? And how the hell are parents supposed to go out and earn a living ? What - they have to hire a babysitter to stay home and learn on the computer while they work??
What is happening here ?!?!!
It very clearly sounded as if he thought we could drastically cut the amount of teachers, and drastically increase the amount of technology.
Again-terrifying.
Wonder what the teacher's union will have to say about this.

When do you think schools will reopen?
Distance learning in my house is not going well. I fight my son every day to tap out words so he can read. Forget about trying to get him to write a few words to make a sentence - OMG.
My K son hasn’t socialized with another kid since March 13th. This is not healthy for his development.
I teach HS and the completion rate is definitely getting worse. Most of my day is spent emailing and calling parents and students to try to make contact with them. Even some of my highest achievers are starting to drop off.

Yeah, I don't know 1 person distance learning is going well for. Some of the parents of the other kids in my sons class have given up all together. They aren't even trying. They figure the teachers can get their kids back on track next year.
This has been me, honestly. I just stopped trying. I'm hoping school opens in september and they will be able to catch up.

I am starting to worry they wont open until a vaccine is offered. That is honestly what the govt sees as phase 3.
They see a vaccine as stage 3? I've never heard that. Can't say I'd be surprised though. My hope is while kids are in camp this summer, they can go through phases 2 and 3, get the adults back to work, and kids will follow in September. Distance learning is not, in any way, an adequate education. And this is why people don't like Cuomo. Nobody is blaming him for the virus being here. But some of the things he says and thinks make it very clear he can't see past his privileged life.
I know someone who works for a very large company in the city (15k+ employees). They were told (regarding returning to work) phase 1 is June 1st -- only essential workers, stage 2 is September 1st and only for people who have a hard time completing work from home. Stage 3 is vaccine. I was floored.

What did Cuomo mean when he said they’re “reimagining” what schools will be like with the Gates foundation?!? WTF! This cannot sound good!

I hope everyone is prepared for a mandatory vaccine, even for adults. If not, start pushing back now. This is what they are gearing up for, don't be surprised if it's got a chip in it too.

Knowing how much they pushed for vaccines to be mandated last yr because of measles when there wasn’t even 1 death and how easy and fast those bills passed, it would not surprise me one bit if they decide to add a covid vaccine to the mandated schedule.

Essential workers are already working. I am so confused. He outlined all of the phases and never once mentioned a vaccine, and phase 3 is not even the last phase. Maybe that is what their company's policy will be?

Probably. Every company may make their own timeline as long as it's not ahead of the gov'ts phases. So I can see that happening. Right now my company's warehouse and staging facility is open and the workers are going in- they never stopped going in- because they are considered essential (we support essential customers- like Quest Labs, many many hospitals , etc and we warehouse and stage their equipment) So essential workers are already in at my company.

Re: When do you think schools will reopen?
I watched the King's conference a few hours ago and have to say that it's just now that I am beginning to calm down. He wants to control the school system - does nobody else see this? Okay, at the risk of sounding like a crazy person - if he requires that everyone learn the same thing remotely from one teacher then that means that the government controls what is taught and there is no questioning, no discussing, no interacting. That's pretty much his ideal agenda. And he really doesn't care how parents will work if the kids are home. He wants you NOT to work so that you are reliant on the government.
As for a vaccine that will be rushed through without proper trials and then mandated - when people start getting paralyzed, guillane barre syndrome, etc. (like what has happened with previous rushed vaccine programs that were then abruptly stopped), then what? Is that an acceptable risk for your family, and if it is, then that risk is far greater than the risk of dying of the virus, so we may as well open now. You can't say that having antibodies doesn't prevent you from getting the virus again and then say a vaccine will save us all. Those two things are inconsistent. Any vaccine will not be 100% effective. And EVEN IF a vaccine is developed, it will take a very very long time to vaccinate 330 million people. It's not like a vaccine is ready and then voila, the world is normal again.
And I think it's beyond disgusting that he sat there and said "oh you horrible people want money over human life" and then sat there for 30 minutes literally yelling about how the federal government needs to give him billions of dollars.
People truly think staying home is eliminating the virus. They say "when it's safe when it's safe" and nobody is telling them the date for that is NEVER. The goal was to flatten the curve and then once he locked us in our homes and took away our income and entire lives he said, "nah, let's wait a few years for a cure." And he can STFU about his masks. All the "experts" including Fauci and the surgeon general relentlessly told us not to buy masks, not to wear masks, they don't do anything, don't be an idiot, blah blah blah. And now they are mandatory. Yesterday the CDC admitted that they overinflated the number of flu deaths reported each year but it's worth it to "encourage vaccination." Lie after lie after lie and yet we fall in line like sheep. (For the record yes I wear a mask in stores as they won't let you in without one).
Our entire way of life is being destroyed and everyone just sits back and takes it. People say "oh if he didn't open schools then people would protest and riot." Really? Because last week, people who protested were called "disgusting and psycho" on these boards. But they are heroes and they are patriots and I am about to go stand with them.
How long are you willing to stay in your house without getting a paycheck and relying on a food line to feed your family? How long are you willing to isolate your children from any human interaction? Is that life really better than getting a virus with a 99% survival rate? Is saving a human life worth sacrificing yours? We are no longer savings lives, we are trading lives. And I am done.
So when you see the people on Facebook whining that this woman was only 4.5 feet away from another human, that she wasn't wearing a mask out in the sun on the beach, and that she had a party in her backyard....it's probably ME.

I agree with everything you just said but wanted to quote just this... because this is the crux of the issue. "Is that life really better than getting a virus with a 99% survival rate? " To me , it's not. And I've been saying that for a while now.
I'm terrified. And not of this virus. I am terrified at how easy it is for our govt to control our lives. To control our livelihoods. To control our children's education. To take away everything we have worked for, everything we hold dear All those brave souls who died in wars "defending our freedoms" defending "our way of life", "freedom isn't free", all of that- I feel like they died in vain. Because it's all a sham. We have no rights.

My DS is a HS freshman and he is a very good student and was finishing work by 2 pm a few weeks back. Last night he submitted his last HW by almost 10 pm. It drives me crazy and we were fighting about that, but I don't want to add stress to the situation... and it's still more than a month we have to deal with this online learning, at least for now

Re: When do you think schools will reopen?
I think this has become SO politicized at this point. CNN is talking about how crazy Trump is for wanting to reopen. Really??? How long can an economy shut down before there is irreversible damage. My kids have lost so much and online learning is completely useless. But Cuomo is saying it is going so well???
Honestly, I think liberals/Dems are unwilling to reopen the economy and schools and I think it is to try to destroy Trump and his re-election campaign. I do not like him by any means, but it has become so political. You hear DeBlasio comparing him to Hoover, CNN lambasting any idea of reopening, Dems trying to create more and more unrealistic stimulus plans.
As an independent, I truly think the left is trying to destroy the country and not care if the little guy gets hurt in the end, so long as they oust Trump.

When do you think schools will reopen?
Mayor DiBlasio said today he thinks NYC will have reached stage 4 by September, and that children would be able to start school on time. But he is also thinking Phase 1 will start sometime in June. I just don't see NYC/LI EVER hitting all of these milestones. It is beyond depressing. I am so worried that downstate NY will be the only area of the country not living life.

Lol I don’t know if I will go as far as saying he is a better leader but at least he is giving hope. But the bottom line is he reall has no say. If Cuomo says no then that’s it we aren’t opening.
ETA : I knew we weren’t opening in may let’s hope June is the month for us!

I am too. We are looking now to temporarily relocate to South Carolina, but I am afraid I might never want to come back because of how things are being handled here. That makes me sad because I truly love Long Island but I can not imagine living in a state that is completely okay with how he is handling this.

Yep. I feel better after listening to him, Cuomo makes me want to throw myself out a window. I still say Cuomo knew last month when DiBlasio announced schools staying closed, that he was right. But God forbid anyone get to make that decision besides him. I also will never forget him sitting up there on March 2nd, telling New Yorkers it will not get that bad here, to go out and live your life. The amount of cases & deaths we saw here could have been vastly reduced.

Agree with you both a million percent. The fact that our liberties can be taken away so easily is horrifying. I’m not sure I’ll ever look at the US the same after this, which saddens me. This virus may never go away so I guess we kiss our freedoms goodbye potentially forever. This is not normal.
