I am a mocha cake girl, too! But my brother is surprising me this year
ETA....
Can I just say it is UNREAL how expensive Carvel cakes are these days???!! My brother wanted one for his birthday last year and he and I were in sticker shock when we went to pay.

I love Baskin Robbins ice cream cake because it has REAL CAKE in it - so if I'm in an ice cream mood, then I'll go for yellow cake with their pralines and cream ice cream.
But other than that, I'm weird with birthday cake...I've been known to request Junior's cheesecake or a cherry pie in lieu of cake.

Ice cream cake from Carvel no crunchies (I am gluten free) but you can special order it with nuts instead. I use to LOVE strawberry short cake as my birthday cake.

My grandmother (nana) used to make me a double layer, pound cake with real butter icing and coconut. She also made oatmeal raisin cookies with coconut.
These were made every year from the time I was born until she passed away in 1991.
Sometimes I will make the cookies, but can't get the icing right.

Yes, since I was a little girl I've always had a lemon coconut cake! it's yellow cake layered with lemon curd, frosted with vanilla buttercream and fresh coconut. Dortoni in Levittown makes it.

My mom used to make a black forest cherry cake for my b-day.
She's gone, but I have her recipe and can make a pretty good one just like hers.
Nowadays, anythign chocolate will do. DH doesn't like fruit in his cakes, and chocolate I can share if I have to .

My mom makes our birthday cakes for us. My request is ciambella - a ring cake and you can add what you want to it for extra flavor i.e. raisins (my favorite), chocalte for a marble cake, fruit etc...

My MIL makes this for all of our birthdays and its delicious. Mine will usually have chocolate chips in it and chocolate drizzled all over it since I love my chocolate. Generally that's all I want for my birthday: chocolate cake

MY FAVE is coconut cake 
but the in laws always get an ice cream cake. i don't get a choice anymore. 
BTW I wouldn't get a coconut one anyway, DH hates coconut. But an actual cake would be nice!

when i was a kid up until i was in my early 20s i would always get a valencia cake from the bronx. its a yellow cake with pineaple filing. the icing/frostin is to do die for.
i miss it so much
now i usually get a napoleon

This is me! And my mom. (and sometimes for mother's day if we get a cake for mother's day.
My dad is always ice cream cake.
DH varies. He's not very into cake or a particular cake. My daughters haven't settled into a particular cake yet--they are 2 and 3. Though, i think I can predict generally what will turn out to be each of their cakes.
