When should I expect her to tell me she has to go potty?
Today is 2 weeks since we started PT. First we did it my DH's way and today is Day 4 of my way which is no diapers and no pull ups except at bedtime.
She'd doing really well, BUT I am still the one asking her 100X a day if she has to go and telling her when to sit.
I want to give her more opportunties to tell me but yesterday she had 2 accidents and 1 today. She did better the first 2 days. What gives?

Personally, I found if they're not telling you they're not ready. Ryan could go on command from 18months til we potty trained him over a month ago. I tried a few times in between and it wasn't working. I would fill her with fluids and let her get the sensation and have the accidents

Thiss is what I am afraid of but after 2 weeks I'd hate to just quit. We did that 4-5 months ago. I am afraid it will start confusing her but I don't want to force her or push her either.

I agree with Jessee. I tried with Jack, he hardly had any accidents bc I was on top of him - but he never told me he had to pee.
I gave up after one week.
Two months later I tried again and he's been going strong for almost a month now.
Don't look at it as giving up, look at it as she might not be ready just yet.

I don't think I can turn back now. Which is worse?

I felt the same way but couldn't take it anymore. He was potty trained because I was making him go to the bathroom not because he was communicating to me that he has to go.
When she is ready, she WILL tell you she has to pee.
I did it for one LONG week. Barely went out, was a PT crazy person. In the end I realized he just wasn't ready. Two months later - and he def. is.
Isn't your DD on the younger side too?

Yeah I guess. She's almost 25 months. I just really thought this was it. Why do I feel defeated?
I think I have to give it a few more days. I'm going to let her have accidents etc and see if she starts telling. If not I think I'll wait a bit more. I cannot see going back to diapers.

Re: When should I expect her to tell me she has to go potty?
My DD is 3 and I spent months putting her on the potty. She happily goes to the potty but only tells me once a week (if I'm lucky that she has to go). She just still does not understand when she feels the sensation to run to the potty. Sometimes she asks me to change her diaper when she has a pull up on, so part of me thinks she is delaying it as much as possible since she watches us change her sister. It's frustrating at times, but I know she'll get it someday

Does she wear pull ups? Diapers? or underwear? Do you still just put her on it periodically?

It's hard to give in, so I understand but I also think that just turning two is REALLY really young to expect a child to be potty trained. I know it happens earlier for girls than boys, but that is def. way early IMO
Good luck either way

Re: When should I expect her to tell me she has to go potty?
I can only share my son's experience but....
We started training in November 2009. Failed miserably but I put him in pullups instead od diapers (because he was outgrowing size 7 and I was tired of laying him down to change him - wanted him to start getting use to pulling the diaper up and down).
Occassionally would tell me he had to pee. DH taught him how to pee standing up and this seemed to help interest him in going more often on the potty.
February 2010 - got a note from his daycare teacher that he was showing signs of being ready and peeing on the potty at school. So we begin again.
April 2010 - no more pullups at school and home (only for sleep). Started wearing underwear and my laundry increased dramatically
Summer 2010 - fully trained with peeing on the potty and even started going into the bathroom on his own. Poop - not soo good
September 2010 (now) - has pooped on the potty 3 consecutive days now (going to CEC when he gets 5 stars) and has not had a single accident (pee or poop) at school or home. I need more time before I can say he is fully trained...but he is getting there!
What I learned.....they will do it when they are ready. I tried to push too fast in November and he just wasn't ready.

I agree with the others, 25 months is really early for most kids. If she's not telling you, you're going to spend your days attached to the kitchen timer.
DD will be 3 next month and still doesn't completely have the hang of it. I think the more you stress about it, the worse it is. When she's ready, she's ready!

Oh boy! I guess I shouldn't have expected a miracle in 2 weeks
Seriously though, this makes me feel better. I feel like so many of my friend IRL had their kids trained in 3-5 days right after their 2nd birthdays so I thought it was time. Thanks girls for the support and sharing and reassurance that this is NOT failure.

You know what's so funny - the first time around PT was complete and total TORTURE! On him, on me. I hated every second of it. Everyone kept telling me "When he is ready, it won't be so hard" and they were right. It just clicked two months late. He won't poop on the toilet - but that's for a whole other post

We had to try because her nursery school doesn't allow pullups, otherwise I wouldn't have attempted it at all!! We've discovered that she can definitely hold it for the 2.5 hours she's in school (or she is going potty for them, but I don't think she is), so we've backed off significantly - I don't think she's ready yet. Pushing it just doesn't work, IMO.

Every kid is different - I learned that the hard way. I think that I wanted him trained before he was ready and unlike the bottle (or really anything else we've dealt with) this has to be on his terms. At 2.5 years old Lucas wasn't ready but now at almost 3.5 he is getting it. If I could go back in time I would not have even attempted in November 2009...we were both stressed for nothing.
Hands down potty training has been one of the hardest parenting things I've had to do. Taking the bottle away was a breeze compared to this.

Re: When should I expect her to tell me she has to go potty?
The one thing I learned from PT my 2 was that if it felt like work and was consuming you then they weren't ready. When people say their child trained in a few days it's because they are ready.
I tried with DS around 2.5 then 3 and it wasn't happening, I was just getting frustrated. Then we went away and I told him when we got home that we couldn't use diapers anymore because he was getting bad diaper rashes. He understood and we never looked back. He was 3 and 4 months for peep and another month for poop. It took another 6 months for him to wake up dry and even now at 4.5 he will still have accidents at night sometimes.
With DD I tried about 2 months before she turned 3 and again it wasn't clicking. Then a week before her 3rd birthday she wouldn't put a diaper on for me so I told her that is fine but that she needed to tell me when she had to go and she did. She had 1 pee accident and 1 poo accident in a week. She was night time trained after a week. She had 1 night time accident but it happened in the morning and she didn't pee the night before (I couldn't get her to go).
