When was the last time you donated blood?

I am thinking about doing this for the first time and I was curious if it hurts and how often people do it.

Maybe we could have an LIF blood donation rally!

I havent in years....

It doesnt hurt. Just the initial prick like when you have a blood test...

I'll gladly go with you...where do we go around "here"?

I haven't in years. I have been wanting to donate again. It doesn't hurt IMO.

I used to do it whenever I was asked. I cannot do it anymore. I have been anemic since gastric bypass surgery.

I can't. I've tried a few times but I'm too close to the lowest weight you can be to donate.

I haven't in years. I pass out every time I do it and have never had a successful donation because of it. For some reason, all the blood they take just knocks me out, so I haven't done it since. My mom used to donate once a year.

I can't donate until April...... because I donated last month...

I actually got my Gallon Donation card just the other week.

I'm diabetic, so for years I couldn't donate. Then, they opened up the restrictions, so I've done apherisis (where they take one component of your blood, like plasma, platelets or white blood cells, but leave the water and other components, so you don't lose any blood volume).

I had surgery last year, and two years before that, so for a while I wasn't able to donate. Hopefully I'll be able to stay on a routine now.

They changed their program a while ago, and you collect points when you donate that you can exchange for gifts...

I did it a few weeks ago. I have a VERY hard time giving blood when they need it so I am hesitant to do it voluntarily. I don't mind doing it, it's just that they can never get a vein and it is much more painful when they have to "hunt" for it

I haven't donated blood in a long time, but I donated platelets last month.
I plan to do it again next month.

I can only give blood from my right arm do you think that will be a problem?? The veins in my left collapse every time!

haven't in years. I have tried I think about 4 or 5 times, and each time, I pass out, so the dr's recommended I don't anymore. I really wish I could though.

There is a place in PJS and a place in Bohemia. I know I am AB- so I believe my blood is always needed. I am just watching something that is affecting me a lot. I think I am going to go while I am on Spring break, if you are up for it?

Im definitely in!!!!! That week should be good for me...DH is away but I think my mom is going to be here to help out. I have a doctors appointment on the 16th in the morning.

You definitely need to give blood. AB- is the rarest blood type!!!!!! Im O-.....

I tried about a month ago at my DS's school but they rejected me bc I didn't have enough iron in my blood. I am a slow bleeder so it takes longer than average and I dread needles but my DH does it all the time and years ago he convinced me to start too. I usually go at least 3 times a year or if I see there is a blood drive nearby.

People do react differently when donating blood, as you can already see from the responses. For me, I don't mind it all and have absolutely no adverse reaction to it. If it is your first time donating, I might suggest going with somebody just in case you do feel ill or weak afterwards.

I donated about a year ago, last May. It doesn't hurt much, but I don't recommend looking at the needle. I used to give it about every 6 months, but had to stop due to a tattoo. I would recommend it. I started because my mom needed a blood transfusion, and I know that if no one donated, she would have been in a very serious situation. Long Island supplies are down, and no one seems to think about those who need it. It is a highly rewarding experience, and I'm proud that you are thinking about it.

I never met the weight requirement before but since having DD iv gained enough weight so i might go soon. I forgot what blood type i am (i know thats so bad) but i know its the one that anyone can take so im sure its much needed.

I donate about 2x a year, cannot currently donate as I am pregnant. The last time I did it was December 08

the red cross comes to my job and I donate there

I do it everytime they call me haha...i pass out easily and for a long time i never went bc i was afraid of passing out but surprisingly im ok giving blood although the last time i went i almost passed out (i didnt drink enough water before i went i think) but i have my next appointment in april to give
