When you started solids how much of a decrease in milk intake?
We just started veggies. We've been doing cereal for a couple of weeks. DH was home with Ryan yesterday and noticed he wasn't finishing his bottles - he used to take 24-30 oz in the time I'm away (8:15AM-7PM or 7:30PM). Yesterday, he only took 20oz in that timeframe and when I came home barely nursed (usually he nurses at 7:30 and 8:30PM). When do you start cutting back formula/BM, and how much do you cut it to? I don't want to leave too little when he starts daycare (9/15) but I don't want to be wasting the good stuff.

My son did not take any less most of the time. If he did it was only 1 or 2 ounces less a day.

Thank you - I wonder if it was just a coincidence then, or if teething played into it. I guess I'll have to watch what he does over the next few days.

DD def drank less when she started solids. Now we're lucky if she drinks about 20-24oz a day. This week my mom is watching her and both days she has only had 2 5oz bottles all day by the time I got home from work (she is also teething though and has been very cranky).

Hey jess...
Luke definately dropped his formula intake within the past month. The doctor said its a combination of solids, teething, and just getting older. He was a consistent 4 bottles a day of about 7 ounces each..now he take 3 or 4 bottles a day and gets about 20oz a day...not including the formula I use to mix his cereal.

Maybe I can start slowing down on my pumping then! Woo hooo! On a work day I pump 5x/day and get about 32-35oz. Would love to not have to continue at this pace...

Re: When you started solids how much of a decrease in milk intake?
For me it's hard to tell if the decrease is because of the solids or the switch to daycare. But before we started solids she was taking about 32oz of formula a day.
DD's babysitter gave her 2 8oz bottles a day (at least that she told me about) and I gave her 2 6oz bottles so that was a decrease of 4oz to 28oz a day.
Now that she's in daycare, I decided to try and see how she'd do with 6oz bottles because I often found that she left 2 ounces behind and suspected that the babysitter would force more on her... and so far it looks like I was right.
So now DD takes 24oz a day.

DS never took less after we started solids. Its only now at 11mos, w/table food, that I'm giving him less formula/milk at dinner.

Re: When you started solids how much of a decrease in milk intake?
Ok, then I def. won't be starving him to make smaller bottles.
As of last week, on a day I work, this was his schedule:
7:30AM - Nurse 10:30AM - 1TBSP cereal with 1oz BM 6 oz bottle 1:30PM - 6oz bottle 4:30PM - 6oz bottle 6:30PM - 1TBSP cereal with 1oz BM 6oz bottle 7:30PM - nurse 8:30PM - nurse
And, last week it was nursing around 1:30 and 4:30AM This week we're back to just once in the middle of the night around 3/4AM
