Where do you keep your shoes when you walk in the house? - UPDATE with picture!
I have a colonial and you basically walk in to my dining room, and then living room off to the left.
We usually take them off and leave them against the wall in my dining room. It annoys me big time!
Is there something I can use to make it a little bit prettier? I can't put them upstairs bc I will never get out of the house, and I don't have a coat closet that is right there (It's in my office, and kind of a pain in the butt to get to from the front door)

How about a wicker basket on the floor? that's what i used to have by my back door because I hated having shoes laying around.. when they weren't there, they were in the mud room in a cubby

I would move the PNP and get a basket big enough to house the shoes. When you have company you just move the basket.

I would move the PNP and get a basket big enough to house the shoes. When you have company you just move the basket.
I moved the PNP. That's in the living room now (where the exercauser was)
I have a painted chest, it's sitting in my room behind my closet door. I could bring that down, it matches my decor, I just don't know if it will be TOO much KWIM? It closes so the shoes would be completely hidden.

That's what I think. I have about 15 pieces crammed into that tiny dining room LOL
Maybe I'll just get a wicker basket. James will kill me if I have him bring it down just to bring it back up again (and I have to go through the crap that's in it which would stink!)

I bought a basket for the stairs at Ballard Designs and we throw them in there. Are your stairs right by your front door?

I agree with the wicker basket idea. You can get one with a lid - I bet they have a ton at Marshalls or Homegoods.
Measure your DH's shoes/sneaks width and height and then make sure you find a basket that will fit them so you don't have to buy a bunch and do returns...

only time i take them off when i walk in the house is if its really raining out and i don't want to get the floor wet. we have a small mat to the side of the door for these times. or we just leave them by the door and the next morning when they're dry, move them back upstairs to the closet

I don't think that's unusual either, but like I said, it's hard enough to get out of the house with my two kids, nevermind running back up for shoes on my way out.

i usually take mine off and put them either in the hall closet right off my entry/foyer (i actually want to get a shoe rack for inside that closet) or i bring them into my bedroom closet. i try to get DH in the habit of doing this as well. we try not to wear our shoes in the house and put them away as soon as we get in - i hate a bunch of shoes by the front door.
when we have guests they can leave their shoes on. if they take them off they are either right by the front door (which i hate  ) or in the hall closet.

We come in and out of the back door and there's a mud room/pantry there so all our shoes are there. But I think in your situation maybe utilize a hall closet and put a shoe rack or basket in there...if there is a hall closet?

Nope, there is no hall closet. You walk in to a long living room and then dining room next to each other. Then there is a hallway that leads to the bathroom, kitchen, and office. So I would have to walk into the office to put shoes away (which I'm not opposed to but they won't be right at my finger tips KWIM?)
