I have these from the container store in my bedroom, but you could put one in the entryway:

I say wicker basket with a lid by the front door/in the hallway.

We have a shoe rack like the one above but in wood in our mudroom off the kitchen. It's only about 30" long.

I just posted a picture of what I got! I love how it looks, and it fits tons of shoes!
