Re: Where to live on Long Island???
I used to live in Massapequa, on the south shore and was very lukewarm about it. We now live on the North Shore in eastern suffolk and LOVE it.
Towns we like: Wading River East Steauket Miller Place Port Jefferson
There are a couple more towns in that general area. I honestly prefer the north shore, because I like the quieter beaches (many are private also in these neighborhoods) and the sailing as opposed to speed boating. The traffic is
If you want to stay more centrally located, Cold Spring Harbor is a beautiful town as well, and it is on the Nassau/Suffolk border.

Babylon. I live right on the canal and the the bay is at the end of my block. There's a nice main street and park in the town and it's convenient for the LIRR.

Re: Where to live on Long Island???
I don't live there, I live in Queens. But if I moved there, I would stick to the north shore. I personally don't want to be that far out either. New Hyde Park (be selective), Williston Park, Albertson

Sayville, Bayport, Bluepoint.
ITA Small, but great school districts, Right on the south shore. I love Fire Island so I have always been a south shore fan!
I agree. The prices seem to be a little more manageable than what I have seen on the North Shore. But I might not have looked hard enough!

South Shore of Long Island - Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa, Massapequa Park...
Good schools, lots of families, good parks, close to shopping, less than an hour to NYC.

Re: Where to live on Long Island???
I'm a fan of North Shore Nassau - Great Neck and Port Washington. You can't beat Kings Point and Sands Point if you can afford it.
My parents live in Huntington now. It's nice there but it's far from the city.

it depends on your price range! there are beautiful homes on the south shore of long island in nassau county that i love. bellmore, merrick, all have gorgeous homes in a great school district (bellmore- merrick SD) and most of the homes have slips in the backyard. you will be able to take the boat to the ocean as well. good luck!
i have to agree with this, and South Bellmore School district is like no other... its amazing.
another nice area with a great school district, is Seaford Harbor.
i grew up in seaford and would NOT recommend the harbor area. Its VERY congested. I would aboslutely live in seaford but north of Merrick Rd
If you want to live on the south shore on the water, I would suggest Merrick and Massapequa!

Re: Where to live on Long Island???
We just moved to the North Fork a couple of months ago and love it. The Mattituck Union Free School District is good. We are about 1.5 miles from both the Sound and the Bay. Lots of sailing, boating and fishing.
