Which age did you find "easier" 2 or 3?

I was just on the phone with my friend and we were discussing this. DD is starting her "terrible two's" now and it's mostly just clingyness to mommy and whining. My friend said at age 3 she's found that although they are a bit more independent, they are also much more defiant b/c they know what they want and they want everything immediately and they begin to talk back/mouth off.

Which age did you find easier/harder and why?

2 was a breeze. 3 was when I wondered what the hell I got myself into!!!! Chat Icon

Now that he's almost 5, though, he is awesome!

In hindsight, 2 is so much easier than 3. DS was good again around 5. DD is nearing 6 and still not past this "terrible X" phase.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS was an angel at 2...he turn 3 in December and turned into a devil. So I'm going with 2 is much easier.

Re: Which age did you find "easier" 2 or 3?

Newborns are by far easier Chat Icon

My DS was born when my DD was 2.5 and I remember holding him in my arms, enjoying every bit of his sweet, newborn mushiness and thinking one day this beautiful little angel of mine will be replaced with a loud, willful, evil, monster of a child... aka my then 2.5 year old DD.

He's getting close.. he's 19 months and feisty and testing my patience..

She's 4 now and aside from lots of whining, she's a dream compared to just a year or two ago. There was very little difference between 2 and 3.. the details may have been different but the drama was the same.

DD is 2 and a half. She has awesome verbal skills and is extremely independent.

She's also been a monster. She talks back, everything is an argument. I am praying that 3 is easier than 2 for her.Chat Icon

DS is 2 1/2 and it's been VERY hard the past 6 months. He is going through the terrible two's and its straight up TERRIBLE. I cant imagine it getting any worse than it already is. God help me if 3 is harder Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm not there yet but, when I was talking to my ped at DS' 2 year visit about what a monster he had become - his response was just wait until 3.

With ds 2 was easier. Dd is only 2 now and I really hope 3 is easier.

Ditto. I spoke to my ped and family and friends when DH and I were thinking of TTC number two. They all said...do not bring a newborn home to a 3 year old. While having a 2 year old and a newborn will be more demanding physically on the parents, a newborn and a 3 year old may push us mentally over the edge. We listened to their advice but now I will have a 1 year old and a 3 year old in the future!

Totally agree! My 3 year old talks back to me. I say NO, and he says, "But xyz..." and starts to justify things to me in his own logic. My 2 yo just says NO and goes about her business.

Agreed. DS was never a terrible two. But a week before three a switch went off and for the next year everything was a battle. It was exhausting. Now he is 4y 2m and he's becoming a please to be around again.

I will say my sil said her dds had a terrible twos stage where her DS had the terrible threes as well

Re: Which age did you find "easier" 2 or 3?

You guys are really scaring me. DS is almost 2.5 & really has a bad case of the terrible 2s. He has a speech delay but after only 3 months of EI, is so verbal which has now given him the ability to talk back. Everything is a fight along with the attitude.

Re: Which age did you find "easier" 2 or 3?

We are just leaving two and entering 3, he will be 3 in May... I am starting to get a glimmer of 3 and I am SCARED! His tantrums have a purpose and he isn't easily distracted from them like before. He cried for like an hour..check that.. screamed bloody murder because it was time to leave the Children's Museaum. It was awful. He is having these crazy drawn out tantrums. And EVERYTHIG is "i do it myself" Or "I throw myself on the floor and scream". Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon It is taking us forever to do everything!
